two more days had gone by since the boys had spoken. they both sat on opposite sides of the auditorium, alone.
they would both look over at each other, longingly, obviously both wanting the dumb fight to be over.
whenever joon was looking away, jimin would be looking at him. and whenever jimin wasn't looking at joon, joon would be staring at him. they both thought they were slick, but really they couldn't have been more obvious.
and although jimin would have no problem going up to namjoon and begging to go back to being friends- he didn't. he wanted namjoon to come to him.
he knew it would be hard for the boy, considering how timid he was, but he wanted to see if namjoon cared enough to try and fix it himself.
-
"alright, guys. don't forget you have your test on monday! have a good weekend!" mr. kim announced, as the bell rang.
namjoon stood up, packing his things up slowly, not really having any place he needed to be.
by the time he had his bag all packed, everyone in the class was pretty much gone. there were still a few groups of friends hanging around and talking, but most of the class had left.., including jimin.
namjoon didn't know what to do. he felt awful and he wanted to fix everything, but he didn't know how.
he wanted to apologize and tell jimin how miserable the few weeks had been without him. he wanted to tell him that he'd broken up with areum.
but he was scared.
he was scared jimin wouldn't forgive him. he was scared that jimin didn't need him anymore- didn't care about him.
they were stupid thoughts, really, but namjoon always worried about certain situations- no matter how unrealistic.
but, this situation wasn't stupid... it wasn't something that he could just brush under the rug. this was jimin. and he sure as hell wasn't going to let his stupid anxiety take away the best thing he had in his life.
jimin had always fought for namjoon, throughout their whole friendship, jimin was the one putting in all the work. and now, it was namjoon's turn. he was going to fight for jimin- no matter how nervous he was.
jimin was worth it.
jimin was worth everything to him and he couldn't bear the thought of losing him.
so, without another thought, namjoon scurried out of the classroom, heading for the café.
-
namjoon had arrived out front of the small building. he had been pacing outside of it for a few minutes trying to plan through what he wanted to say, but the more he thought about it, the more nervous he felt.
so, not wanting to back out, he decided to just walk straight in and speak from the heart.
he was done pretending.
namjoon flung the door open and immediately saw jimin sitting in their usual spot.
the boy looked a bit depressed, just taking a few sips of his drink here and there, trying to focus on his homework.
namjoon gulped, walking slowly to the table.
after a few more steps, he made it to their usual spot, standing on the opposite side of jimin.
jimin could feel a presence around him, so he immediately looked up.
as soon as he saw joon, he looked surprised, but to namjoon's luck, not in a bad way. his face eventually settled, just staring at him and waiting for namjoon to say something.
namjoon cleared his throat and put his hand on the back of the chair that was across from jimin.
"is... is this seat taken?" he asked, a little shyly, not being able to hold back a small smirk at finally talking to the boy again.
jimin tried to stay tough but ended up smiling back.
"no... sit," jimin said, moving some of his homework out of the way.
namjoon sat down across from the boy, trying to steady his breath.
he glanced around at the table, his heart immediately melting when he saw what jimin had done. the boy had ordered his usual hot chocolate with extra whip and danish. except, the part that made namjoon melt was that jimin had only eaten half of the cheese danish, leaving the other half to get cold on the plate.
jimin knew that namjoon noticed the discarded danish, quickly clearing his throat and trying to take the attention away from it.
"so... how have you bee-"
"i'm sorry," namjoon said, cutting him off, "i'm so, so sorry, jimin. i was overdramatic and rude to you. i broke up with areum. i...i don't like her. you were right. i think... i think you telling me that was just something i wasn't ready to hear and it just... it made me lash out at you and i shouldn't have. and i know you're not trying to change me or whatever, jimin. you're always just trying to help. always," namjoon said, frantically.
jimin looked a bit taken aback at first. he hadn't ever seen namjoon so enthusiastic before. but, once his mind registered everything joon said, he smiled to himself, nodding.
"i'm sorry, too. it really wasn't my business to tell you how to handle your relationship. and i shouldn't have submitted your poem. i honestly thought it would make you happy... but i should have thought more about what you actually wanted," jimin said, "you were right. i was being selfish."
namjoon shook his head.
"you weren't, jimin. you did it for me. i was just being an asshole,"
jimin smiled brightly, laughing.
"well, whoever's fault it was doesn't really matter," jimin said, "i'm just happy we're okay again. i... i missed you."
namjoon blushed, smiling at the boy.
"i missed you, too. a lot."
jimin pushed the discarded half of danish over to namjoon, with pink cheeks.
"i was gonna eat the whole thing myself, but... it felt weird."
namjoon just laughed, grabbing the danish and taking a bite.
he had almost forgotten how amazing the pastry was.
-how amazing jimin was.
"oh! one second," jimin said, hopping up from the table and running off.
namjoon sat there for a few minutes, confused, not sure where jimin had run off to. maybe the bathroom or-
"here you go!" jimin said, setting down namjoon's usual black coffee order onto the table.
namjoon blushed wildly, feeling his heart flutter as he looked at the drink.
jimin sat down and continued drinking his hot chocolate like the adorable gesture was nothing.
but it was.
it was to namjoon.
"t-thank you," namjoon said, clearly flustered, "i..."
"don't mention it!" jimin said, "take it as an 'i'm sorry i was an idiot' drink."
namjoon smiled, looking down at the cup that was now placed between his hands, warming them.
"also... thanks for sticking up for me," namjoon said, out of the blue, "after your friends said... that stuff... you... you went out of your way to defend me even though i was so rude to you. i just... that was... that was really nice."
jimin nodded, with a smile, looking up at joon to meet eyes with him.
"those boys aren't my friends, joon," jimin said, "you're my friend."
