Sophie and Fitz were fighting again. She had been calling Keefe on her imparter, venting about how she didn't know if she should tell about her biological parent. Fitz had walked in (Sandor really needed to start warning her) and caught her. He was furious that she had told Keefe who her parent was but not him.

"That's not fair Sophie. Don't you trust me?" he demanded.

"Of course, I do Fitz, but..." she trailed off, nervously tugging her eyelashes. " I just...cannot tell you, ok?" Fitz shook his head, pacing around the room. Sophie looked at the ground and bit her lip. She was so sick and tired of all the fighting, but it seemed like she just couldn't do anything right. It wasn't like this when she talked to Keefe. He understood. She shook her head. That wasn't fair to Fitz, Keefe was an Empath, he could literally feel how she felt, he knew how not to upset her. Fitz was muttering angrily to himself.

"Why won't you just tell me who it is? Or put it on your Matchmaking form? You want to be matched, right?" he said sadly. Sophie tried to ignore the itch in her eyelashes.

"I... I guess I want to see who my matches are," she replied.

"You guess? I thought you wanted to see if I was on your list. You care, don't you? About me? Let me help you," he demanded. The itch in Sophie's eyelashes was almost unbearable now. She was getting fed up with all this fighting and how she never pushed back.

"I care about you! How could you say something like that? I just can't tell, okay?" she burst out. Fitz stared at her, shocked by her outburst.

"You're mad at me? I am the one who was betrayed by you. We are Cognates," he said, throwing his hands up in the air. "You know what, I am tired of fighting, so just apologize, and let's be done with this." Sophie couldn't help it. She was mad at him, mad for how she always apologized, he always overreacted and never listened. She had had enough.

"No." she replied coolly. Fitz raised his eyebrows and looked at her.

"No? " he repeated, in shock.

"No, I am not going to apologize. This is not my fault; it is my secret and I can tell whoever I want about it. And if that doesn't include you? Well, that's my choice, not yours." she looked at him, checking to see if he would interrupt. He didn't, so she continued, getting more and more wound up. All the pent-up rage she had been holding back was bubbling up, and she was going to let it. "I am so tired of you overreacting about everything, and constantly making ME apologize! You do not control me, I can make my own decisions, and you should respect that. I don't care if we are Cognates, my parents are not a "we" thing they are a "me" thing.  And most of all I am so sick of you never LISTENING!" she cried out and collapsed. Fitz started toward her.

"Sophie," he began.

"Leave," she said. She was shaking with pent up sobs. "We are over." Fitz's eyes widened and he looked so furious, Sophie was scared.

"Fine," he said and stormed out. Finally, Sophie was alone, and she could cry. She sobbed and sobbed, and it hurt so bad.
