"10:23pm " Adebola said to herself as she looked at her wrist watch. She was on her way to the office to pick her daughter. She had to go to Abuja with her secretary and two other staff members to convince the Canadian investors. Her daughter had been with detective Olaoluwa and she couldn't reach him because her phone's battery was dead. She got to Lagos about three hours ago but she has been in traffic since.
"Is there a shorter route? My daughter is still at the office,"  Adebola asked the driver.
"No ma'am. We will soon reach the office,"
"Fine, just hurry" She said hurriedly.
About an hour later, she got to the office. When she got to her office, she saw Modurotoluwa sleeping peacefully on Olaoluwa's arms. Olaoluwa was watching a soap opera on TV,so he didn't hear her come in.
"I am so sorry. Traffic was hectic and my phone battery was dead," Adebola apologized.
"It's okay," Olaoluwa replied smiling.
"I hope she wasn't a handful,"
"Oh no, she wasn't. We had fun. She was really happy to see toy story at the cinema."
"Thank you so much. I don't even know how I'll repay you," Adebola said as she attempted to carry her daughter.
"Don't bother, I'll carry her to your car," Olaoluwa said as he stood up carrying Modurotoluwa.
"Thank you so much,"
"I hope she didn't spend too much," Olaoluwa asked as they walked to the parking lot.
" My phone's battery is dead so i don't know yet but I trust my daughter,"
"Really, because my car is full of shopping bags,"  Olaoluwa said with a chuckle.
When they got to the car, Olaoluwa carefully dropped Modurotoluwa in her car seat which was at the passenger side. After that, he and Adebola transferred all the bags to Adebola's car.
"Thank you so much,I really appreciate it," Adebola said sincerely.
"You are welcome. I will begin to search for Cynthia Obi and I will call you if I find her,"
"Okay, let me give you my personal number so we can communicate better. My business line is managed by my secretary,"  Adebola said.
"That'll be better. Thank you so much for your cooperation,"  Olaoluwa replied smiling.

Adebola entered the house and she saw her parents in the living room watching TV. She gave Modurotoluwa to her nanny and she proceeded to meet her parents.
" Adebola,latarro(since morning),"
"Mum..... I "
" What is wrong with you? Your daughter has been with you since morning and you are just coming back. Look at the time. Why did you come back late?"
" Mum, it wasn't my fault. I had to go to Abuja and there was traffic,"
"Did you take Modurotoluwa to Abuja?" Adebayo asked.
"No dad. She really wanted to go to the cinema so...er.... the detective in charge of the case took her,"
"Adebola, o de ma koba mi(please don't implicate me) You allowed your daughter to go out with a complete stranger,"
"Mum, he is not a complete stranger and he went with security guards,"
"Why couldn't Aderenle go to Abuja?"
"I don't know mum. Our Canadian investors wanted to pull out of the deal. That would have cost us billions of dollars, I had to convince them,"
"Was the deal as important as your daughter? You could have told someone else to take her,"
"Mum, I am so sorry. I won't do it again," Adebola apologized.
"Okay, you can go to your room,"
"Goodnight mum, goodnight Dad,"
Adebola walked tiredly to her room. On her way, she saw her brother holding a bottle of water. His eyes were red and he looked really tired.
"Sister B,"
"What is it?" Adebola snapped.
"It's nothing, I'm sorry,"  Aderenle said looking dejected.
"Hey, I am sorry for snapping at you. Come to my room, let's talk," Adebola said and her brother nodded.
When they entered Adebola's room, Aderenle sat on a sofa while his sitter sorted out her things.
"So,what is it?"
"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to keep it from you,"
"Aderenle,it's fine. I am sorry for slapping you,"
"Sister B, The police detained Helena," Aderenle said quietly.
"What? Why? How? Did you tell dad?"
"I don't know Sister B, I am so confused. They treated her like a criminal. "
"Did they......"
"No,they didn't treat me like a criminal. Why do they treat normal people like that? They were shouting at her. I tried to stop them but they didn't listen. Then, the DPO came in and said they should detain her."
"Did you tell Dad?"
"No, I thought I had it under control,"
"Aderenle! Clearly you don't. Why didn't you tell Dad earlier?"
"Because you guys think I am incapable of doing anything," Aderenle said raising his voice.
"Derenle, where is all this coming from?"
"The contract, Helena and many other things. I guess failure is constant for me,"
"If you don't stop saying these things, I'll send you out of my room. Everybody is bound to mistakes and it's better you let that sink into your brain. I'll call the commissioner tomorrow morning and I am sure she'll be released." Adebola said firmly.
"Thank you,"
"Aderenle listen to me,you are an Adeleke. The sooner you know what that name means in Nigeria the better. You could have called your lawyer or better still tell the police men that only the detective in charge of the case could interrogate you." Adebola scolded him.
"I am so sorry,"
"It's okay. Derenle, everything will be fine," Adebola said as she hugged her brother.
************************************
Aderenle and Helena walked silently to his car. Adebola was true to her words and Helena was released in the morning. Helena eyes were red and her hair was looking unkempt.
When they got to the car, Aderenle held Helena's hand and said,
"We'll get through this together,"
"Aderenle,I can't do this anymore,"  Helena said close to tears.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean this thing between us....it can't work. I don't want to deceive myself........."
"Helena, where is all this coming from?"
"I thought about it and I can't keep decieving myself. All my life, I have been unlucky. All these is too good to be true," Helena said admit sobs.
"Helena, you deserve good things in life and I am sorry if everything and everyone you have come across didn't prove that to you. I won't leave you alone. This relationship is no joke to me,"
"But........."
"Helena, trust me," Aderenle said softly and Helena nodded.

Olaoluwa found out that Cynthia Obi was a teacher teaching at a primary school in Ikorodu. It wasn't difficult to find the school because it was a government school. He carefully parked his car on the school's football field and he proceeded to the Headmaster's office. When he got to the office, he saw a woman seated and he assumed she was the Headmaster.
"Good day ma," He greeted politely.
"Good day ooo,you may have your seat. How may I help you?"
"I am Olaoluwa Bello,a detective and I am looking for Miss Cynthia Obi who I believe is a staff here,"
"I hope there is no problem,"
"There isn't. I just need to see her."
"Okay, she will be with you shortly."
Few minutes later, a lady entered the office.
"Good afternoon, the Headmaster said you were looking for me,"
Olaoluwa looked up and said,
"I am detective Olaoluwa and I need to ask you some questions,"
"Okay,there is no problem,"
"Please can we go towards the football field so that this conversation will be private?"
"Yeah we can but you need to hurry because it will soon be break time,"
When they got to the football field, Olaoluwa asked,
"Do you know Adebola Adeleke?"
"Hmmm.....no," Cynthia replied with any emotion showing that she knew her.
"What primary school did you attend?"
"Kingdom Heritage Model School,"
"What year did you graduate?"
"1998"
"That's the same year Adebola Adeleke graduated so you should know her,"
"Do you have her picture ?" Cynthia asked and Olaoluwa brought out his phone to show her Adebola's picture.
"Erm....er..... I know her but we are not friends,"
"Miss Cynthia, you have to cooperate with me if not I will take you to the station,"
"I... I'll cooperate," Cynthia said trembling.
"Good. Six years ago,you took her to meet a man for a job interview. Who is the man,"
"Er... I swear to God. I didn't mean to do it. I don't know the man. I met him at a club and he told me he liked my friend. He promised to give me money if I introduced my friend to him,"  Cynthia said in fearm
"Okay, why were you not with her?"
"I was waiting for her outside but a man came to tell me to go home. I hesitated but he had a gun. I had no choice but to go. He also told me not to contact Adebola again."
"Can you identify the man that told you he liked Adebola?"
"Not really but I can identify the armed man,"
"Okay, can you come by our station for further interrogation?"
"Will I be arrested?"
"If you come, you might not but if you don't,you will,"
"Okay,I'll come first thing Monday morning,"
"Thank you for your cooperation. Have a nice day."
************************************
Modurotoluwa entered Adeire's took and saw her sniffing a white substance.
"Aunty, what is that?"
Adeire cleaned her nose quickly and kept the cocaine under her pillow.
"It's nothing,"
"Please tell me," Modurotoluwa pouted.
"Erm, it is a special substance for ladies,"
"Can I have some?"
"You are not a lady yet,"
"Why?"
"Modurotoluwa, what did you buy at the mall yesterday?" Adeire said changing the subject and Modurotoluwa face lit up.
"I bought Barbie dolls, clothes, candies, biscuits and chocolate. Uncle Olaoluwa bought a pouch for my iPad,"
"Who is uncle Olaoluwa?"
"He is a detective and he is very nice," Modurotoluwa said in excitement.
"Did you show your mum the pouch?"
"By the time, I woke up she has already gone to work,"
"Okay, you'll tell her today when she comes back from work,"
"Aunty, why are you not in school?"
"I took a break from school for a year because I wasn't really doing well,"
"Okay, when will I go back to school? I miss school already,"
"I really don't know but I'm sure you'll be in school very soon,"Adeire replied
"Aunty, come to my room, let me show you my new dresses," Modurotoluwa said as she attempted to drag Adeire.
************************************
Adebola breathed a sign of relief as she sat down to eat. The whole family was present at the dinning table including Helena. However, Modurotoluwa was absent. The table was decorated with fresh flowers and dishes containing pounded yam, egusi,Efo riro, goat meat and catfish pepper soup.
"Where is Modurotoluwa?" Adebola asked when she noticed that her daughter was absent.
"She went to get her iPad. I guess she wanted to show you something," Adeire replied.
"Aderenle and Helena,if I don't see you in the office tomorrow, consider your appointment terminated," Adebayo said firmly.
"Okay sir," they both replied.
"Adeire start getting ready to go back to school, I'll ask my secretary to purchase your flight ticket and send it to you tomorrow." Adebayo said.
"Why can't she buy it herself? When Adebola was schooling at Harvard she did everything herself,", Temidayo said and Adeire's face fell.
"I'll sort it out myself," Adeire said gently.
"Janet, please go upstairs and tell Modurotoluwa to come downstairs now." Adebola said to one of the maids and the maid obeyed immediately.
"Adebola, I heard you agreed to give the Canadian investors a higher percentage on the Mall project,"
"Yes Dad, it wasn't either that or we lose them as our investors." Adebola replied .
"That's very smart of you. I'll get in touch with other investors tomorrow so we can commence the project," Adebayo said.
"Dad,we........."
"Ma,you need to come upstairs now," The maid said while panting and Adebola ran after her. When they all got upstairs, the maid led them to Adeire's room and they all saw Modurotoluwa on the floor with a white substance round her nose and mouth. She had passed out on the floor. Adebola could not move as tears were rapidly dropping from her eyes.
Aderenle moved close to Modurotoluwa to examine the substance she was covered in.
"Aderenle, what is that?" Adebayo asked when Aderenle brought the substance close to his mouth to taste.
"Dad, it's cocaine."
