(y/n) saw the tail of a large snake slither around the corner of the corridor. Curiously, she followed it, wondering how a snake so big even got into the castle. As she turned the corner, she saw the snake coiled up, rising almost to the ceiling. She slowly walked closer to it, examining the scales closely. They were huge. It turned around and met her gaze, it's yellow eyes felt as though they were piercing through her. Everything became dark.

(y/n) quickly sat up in her bed, breathing heavily. She hadn't had a dream that vivid since last year. She got out of bed and grabbed a piece of parchment from her desk. She grabbed her quill and wrote down every detail she remembered before storing it into her notebook.

(y/n) walked into the Greenhouse with Hermione and Neville for their first Herbology lesson of the year. Neville seemed thrilled as he stood in front of a pot. (y/n) stood in the spot next to him, looking quite bored already. Herbology wasn't her favorite class by any means. Ron and Harry entered a few moments later, taking the last two available pots next to Hermione.

"You two got detention on the first day?" Neville asked.

"That must be some kind of record." Seamus remarked.

"I should think you'd count yourself lucky that's all you get." Hermione said with a scolding look.

"I should think you'd mind your own business." Ron retorted.

Hermione furrowed her eyebrows, clearly offended by what he had said. The two glared at each other as Professor Sprout asked for everyone's attention.

"Welcome to Greenhouse Three, second years. Today, we will be re-potting Mandrakes. Now, who here can tell me the properties of the Mandrake?" she asked. Hermione raised her hand high into the air. "Yes Miss Granger?"

"Mandrake, or Mandragora, is used to return those who have been transfigured to their original state. It's also quite dangerous. The Mandrake's cry is fatal to anyone who hears it." Hermione explained.

"Excellent. 10 points to Gryffindor." Professor Sprout awarded. (y/n) gave Hermione a smile and a thumbs up. "Now, as our Mandrakes are only seedlings, their cried won't kill yet. However, they will knock you out for several hours. That is why I have provided each of you with a pair of earmuffs. So could you please put them on right away."

Everyone grabbed the earmuffs that were lying on the table and put them on.

"Now watch me." Professor Sprout wrapped her hand around the plant. "You grasp the Mandrake firmly, you pull it sharply out of the pot..." As she pulled it out, it began to scream. "Got it? And now you dunk it down into the other pot and cover it with a sprinkle of soil to keep it warm."

(y/n) saw Neville starting to sway from side to side out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head towards him as he fell. He hit the ground, passing out from the noise. The Slytherins began to howl in laughter as the students close to Neville crowded over him.

"Looks as though Mr. Longbottom has neglected his ear muffs." Professor Sprout mentioned.

"No ma'am, he's just fainted." Seamus explained.

"Hm, very well. We'll just leave him then. Come on now, plenty of pots to go around. Grasp your Mandrake." Professor Sprout instructed. Everyone grabbed the plant in front of them. "And pull it out!"

They all pulled their Mandrakes out at the same time, all of them screaming, making the children cringe at the sound. (y/n) looked at Ron, who was clearly not happy with the situation. They all quickly placed their Mandrakes into the other pot and covered them in soil.
