"Today we will be turning animals into water goblets." Professor McGonagall stated. She pointed her wand at the bird on her desk, tapping it three times. "One, two, three, Vera Verto."
The bird transformed into a water goblet, a few amazed gasps coming from the students. Professor McGonagall began walking down the aisle of desks.
"Now, who would like to go first..." she began scanning the students until her gaze landed on Ron. "Ah, Mr. Weasley. One, two, three, Vera Verto."
Ron nodded slightly and took out his broken wand. He tapped on his rat three times and casted the spell, only turning halfway into a water goblet. The class began to giggle.
"You must replace that wand, Mr. Weasley." Professor McGonagall instructed. Ron nodded shyly and Hermione raised her hand. "Yes Miss Granger."
"Professor, I was wondering if you could tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?" she asked sheepishly.
The whole class stared at Professor McGonagall, waiting for her answer.
"My subject is Transfigurations, Miss Granger." she replied.
"Yes Professor. But there seems to be very little written about the Chamber of Secrets. For those of us with a personal interest in the subject that is...disturbing." Hermione explained. McGonagall looked around the classroom at the many pleading faces before sighing.
"Very well. You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age; Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Three of the founders co-existed quite harmoniously. One did not." she explained.
"Three guesses who." Ron whispered to (y/n). (y/n) smirked as Professor McGonagall gave the two a knowing look.
"Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted to Hogwarts. He believed that magical learning should be kept within all-magic families. In other words, pureblood. Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school. According to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in this castle, known as the Chamber of Secrets. Shortly before departing, he sealed it until that time when his own true heir returned to the school. The heir alone would be able to open the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the horror within, and by so doing, purge the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic."
"Muggle-borns." Hermione clarified.
"Yes. Naturally the school has been searched many times for such a chamber. It has never been found." Professor McGonagall explained.
(y/n) and Ron exchanged a curious glance.
"Professor. What exactly does legend tell us lies within the Chamber?" Hermione asked.
"The Chamber is said to be home to something which the heir of Slytherin alone can control. It is said to be home...to a monster." Professor McGonagall said.
Many of the students began whispering and murmuring to each other. (y/n) heard Malfoy and Crabbe giggle behind her. She turned around, narrowing her eyes at him. He pointed at her and then to Hermione before moving his finger across his throat. (y/n) rolled her eyes as she turned back around, staring at Harry, who seemed to be in deep thought about what Professor McGonagall had said.

"Do you think it's true? Do you think theres really a Chamber of Secrets?" Ron asked.
"Yes. Couldn't you tell? McGonagall's worried. All the teachers are." Hermione responded.
"But if there really is a Chamber of Secrets, and it's really been opened, that means-"
"The heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts." (y/n) interrupted.
"Who do you think it is?" Hermione asked.
Just then, as if on cue, Malfoy and his two goons walked by the group, pushing his shoulder into Harry as he walked past. They laughed as they walked off.
"Let's think. Who do we know who thinks muggle-borns are scum?" Ron asked sarcastically.
Hermione stared at Ron, giving him a stern look.
"If you're talking about Malfoy-"
"Of course it's Malfoy! You heard him, 'you'll be next mudbloods'." Ron said, doing a poor imitation of Malfoy.
"I heard him but Malfoy? The heir of Slytherin?" Hermione asked doubtfully.
"Yeah I don't know either, Ron. Malfoy is a jerk but he's also an idiot." (y/n) stated.
"Maybe Ron's right though. I mean, look at his family. The whole lot of them have been in Slytherin for centuries." Harry stated.
"Crabbe and Goyle must know. Maybe we could trick them into telling." Ron suggested.
"No. Even they aren't that thick...but there might be another way." Hermione pondered. "Mind you, it would be difficult. Not to mention we'd be breaking about fifty school rules. And it would be dangerous. Very dangerous."
"I think breaking rules is a common thing for us now." (y/n) stated.
"Yeah, when do we start?" Ron asked.
"Let's meet in the library tonight and I'll let you all in." Hermione suggested.
They all went about their classes, though (y/n) could hardly pay attention to any of them because her thoughts were all about the Chamber and who the possible heir could be. That night, they all met in the library after dinner. Hermione went to grab a book as the other three sat at the table, making small talk.
"How are you feeling about the game against Slytherin?" (y/n) asked.
"Okay, I guess." Harry answered.
Hermione slammed a book onto the table, quickly opening it as she began to explain her plan.
"Here it is. 'The Polyjuice Potion. Properly brewed, the Polyjuice Potion allows the drinker to transform himself temporarily into the physical form of another.'" she read.
"You mean, Harry and I drink some of this stuff and we turn into Crabbe and Goyle?" Ron asked.
"Yes." Hermione replied.
"Wicked! Malfoy will tell us anything!" Ron exclaimed.
"But it's tricky. I've never seen a more complicated potion. Lacewing flies, leeches, fluxed. And of course we'll need a bit of whoever we want to change into too." she explained.
"Hang on now, I'm drinking nothing with Crabbe's toenails in it." Ron argued, slightly cringing at the thought.
"Stop being so dramatic Ron." (y/n) said. He rolled his eyes. "How long will it take to make?"
"A month." Hermione answered.
"A month? But if Malfoy is the heir of Slytherin, he could attack half the muggle-borns in the school by then." Harry stated.
"Yeah, you didn't have to tell me that." Hermione remarked.
"I mean it's either this or we have nothing." (y/n) mentioned.
Harry sat and pondered the prospects for a moment before sighing.
"Okay fine, I'm in." Harry agreed.
"Me too." (y/n) said.
"Me three." Ron chimed in.
"It's settled then. In a month, we will figure out if Malfoy is the true heir of Slytherin." Hermione stated.
