Not even a minute and a half after you send the text, it's marked as read. Three dots appear at the bottom of the screen and are there for a good minute before a message emerges.

Your heart flutters. I am texting someone cute, am I dreaming? You think. You read the text.

Jimin

Oh hi, I was scared maybe you wouldn't text me.

Sorry, my phone died on the bus😂

Oh that explains it
I was a little worried you changed your mind

Why would he be worried? You gave him your number. If anything, you are more scared than he is. You don't get texts from cute boys often. And when you do, they're asking about your friend Autumn.

Sorry for the wait
Anywho how are you liking school here?

It's very different from Korea
I don't have to wear uniforms here😊

I'll bet that's nice. I can't imagine having to look like everyone else
All the sameness

You feel satisfied with your texts. Not too awkward, like you usually are. Still a little awkward, but what can you do?

You text Jimin for the rest of the day and even your mom and sister are curious because every time you look at your phone, you smile. God, Jimin is so cute. You manage to accidentally put the milk in the pantry and a pot in the fridge because your so distracted.

Soon he has to leave. It's about eight pm anyway so time to "go to bed." Jimin says he looks forward to his future classes with you and wishes you good night. So sweet. You wish him back and put your phone down, internally screaming.

Jimin. Is. Adorable. And you actually gave him your number. Without giving up and running away.

This may be a really good year after all.

Every day, Autumn picks you up for school and sometimes takes you to McDonald's to get breakfast. That's how this morning goes. Autumn picks you up, and you both tiredly go to McDonald's and get breakfast (since school breakfasts suck).

Once you're on the way to the school, you're both a lot more awake and you tell Autumn all about what happened after you gave Jimin your number.

"Wait you actually nailed the foreign exchange student?" Autumn asks in disbelief. You nod proudly. "Yep! And we texted all day yesterday. It was great. And I was a little awkward at first, but then I wasn't, and- Autumn, I like him more now."

"What's he like?"

"He texts funny- but that's probably because he's Korean and still getting used to English. And he's so sweet. I told him about the cracker incident during freshman year and the pervert during sophomore year, and he listened. He listened. It was great. And he said that if he meets the pervert, I should tell him so he knows that's the bad guy."

"Cute."

"And he said good night!"

"Don't get too excited about that, Y/n," Autumn laughs. "That's basic manners. Of course he said good night."

"Oh well. I thought it was sweet anyway."

Autumn parks outside the school and drags you in. You usually get there about fifteen minutes before school starts so you have to chill around until the bell rings. Usually you go to the cafeteria or the lounge. Today you go to the cafeteria out of habit even though you already had breakfast and the seating is uncomfortable.
