Chapter 16: Finally

I tugged on the end of my black dress, trying to pull it down lower. Even though I had some black tights on, the dress was still pretty short. But the problem with pulling my dress down was that I was embarrassed to do so.

I sighed. Eren and Mikasa were both as excited as a little girl getting her first puppy on her birthday when they saw me.

I was also pretty excited, but didn't actually show it, whenever that I saw that their hands were intertwined with one another's earlier.

I realized that Eren and Mikasa were dating, and I was completely happy for the both of them. They have been there for each other since they were little, I'm not surprised that they're dating now.

I smiled to myself at the thought of them together, which may have looked weird.

I mean, I was over to the side of the party talking to no one and all of a sudden I smile, who wouldn't think that would be a bit strange.

I'm still waiting for the apparently important reason why I'm even at the stupid party, and so far, no one has said anything.

I haven't really seen Levi, and to be completely honest, I'm disappointed. I really wanted to see him. I think I was looking forward to.

But, I can always see him later.

For some reason, it was more crowded here. There seemed to be a lot more people at this party than the other one. Which most likely meant that there would be even more drunk people.

Of course the main drunk couple would be Hanji and Erwin though.

No one could take their top place on the list of couples who get drunk at parties.

I was snapped back into reality whenever the music stopped and for once while I was here, it was silent.

I started to walk over to where everyone was, trying to find Eren and Mikasa quickly.

"What's going on?" I whispered to Mikasa once I found her. She didn't reply and only gave me a look, a look that had a trace of sadness.

"If I can have your attention everyone," Erwin's voice asked. I looked at him and noticed the shorty was standing next to him.

Man, their height difference was hilarious.

"I want to congratulate one of our best detectives, Levi Ackerman."

Erwin stopped and everyone clapped for Levi. As that was going on, his eyes scanned the room, as if they were looking for a certain person.

Then they landed on me.

We made complete eye contact that I didn't dare to break.

"He has gotten the opportunity to go work as a detective up in Sina. We are all proud of him."

My heart stopped as everyone cheered him on and clapped for him.

Sina.

He was leaving Trost.

He was leaving me.

That's why.

They wanted me to come because they knew about his opportunity. They wanted me to hear about it from Erwin since Levi wouldn't tell me himself.

He's leaving.

"No, no, no, no," I mumbled. Levi had walked away and the party was continuing as I was piecing the puzzle together in my mind.

"Iris-" Mikasa tried to say.

"I have to find him," I stated quickly. "I have to find Levi."

I quickly walked away from Mikasa, completely ignoring her and Eren's call for me to come back.
