Sometimes I think that everyone has a tragedy waiting for them, that the people buying ice cream at a shop or people picking their noses at stoplights could be only moments away from a horrible disaster. That everyone's life, no matter how unremarkable, has a moment when it will become extraordinary- a single encounter after which everything that really matters will happen.

I was that boy two years ago. I was fanatical with exploring the dimensions of a young love that time but sadly, that had been ended abruptly. Experiencing that love was both a blessing and a curse anyway and god damn how terrible it is that I have to suffer the curse for the rest of my life. I am suffering Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and because of this I was sent by my parents to live here in Singapore to be able to move on from the tragedy.

I have met a lot of great people here and one of my closest is Genesis Cabel. Filipino din siya pero dito sa Singapore na siya pinanganak at lumaki. He is free-spirited, risk-taker and the jolliest person that I have met in my life. Ang downside lang talaga ng lalakeng ito ay mabilis siyang madistract. Konting kaganapan lang sa kapaligiran niya nawawala agad ang focus nya.

We are at Genesis' room, crouched up on his bed while we are both reading the BDMU's requirement on his laptop. I was finally sure where to study for college and I decided that I will be going back to the Philippines. This had surprised my family and made them doubt at first but due to my persistence I was able to convince them. I had also a big help from my psychiatrist when she recommended that it will actually help me to heal if I would be living in the place where I had experienced my traumas. Acording to her this is to make me self-realize that whatever is bothering my mind is in the past and everything will be better from now on. 

"So anong reaction nila nung sinabi mong gusto mo magdorm mag-isa?" ang tanong ni Genesis sa akin pagkatapos niya akong utusang kunin ang charger ng latop nya mula sa drawer nya.

"Nagulat siyempre. Hindi ko actually inaasahang papayag sila pero ewan ko bigla na lang ako tinawagan ni daddy tas tinanong kung seryoso daw ba ako tas okay lang daw sa kanya." Ang sagot ko at bumalik ulit ako sa pagkakaupo sa tabi ni Genesis.

I requested to live alone apparently because I would want to start living independently. Siyempre hindi independently in terms of finances kasi I still need my parents to help me with my college funds and such. Gusto ko lang mabuhay ng mag-isa para maturuan ko din ang sarili ko na hindi ko kailangan magdepend sa ibang tao upang magsurvive.

Nakabase na rin naman na si papa sa Puerto Prinsesa, Palawan dahil taga doon naman talaga siya. Sa Manila niya nakilala si mama at simula noon di pa siya umuuwi. Except now kasi prinomote siya ng PNP doon at kailangan niyang bumalik sa Palawan para sa trabaho. Nagtayo na rin ng sariling clinic si mama sa Puerto Prinsesa kaya ang natira na lang sa Manila ay ang bahay naming wala ng nakatira. Next year ay lilipad na din dito si George para dito mag-aral ng Junior High School. Dahil dito mapipilitan talaga akong mag-isa since wala naman na akong makakasamang pamilya sa Manila.

"Eh yung mga kaibigan mo doon?" tanong ulit niya sa akin. "Nasabihan mo na?"

"Nako last month ko pa nasabihan ang mga iyon," dali dali kong sagot. "SA DBMU na rin sila mag-aaral except kay Margaret kasi nga nagmigrate na ang babaeng yon sa Canada."

"Quick, look at this." Genesis slid his laptop to my direction. He was showing me the part of DBMU's website where they showcase their varsity players. His eyes were open wide while he was smiling from ear to ear. "Ang daming pogi naman na players sa pag-eenrollan natin."

"Shuta distracted ka naman," I sneered and pulled his right ear. "Mga lalaki na naman inuna mong tignan."

"Hoy," sabi ni Genesis at kinurot ako sa legs ko. Napa-aray ako ng malakas sa ginawa niya. "Tapos ko na isulat ang mga kailangan nating requirements no. Nireview ko na rin yung campus map just in case para di tayo maligaw doon kapag nagpunta na tayo."
