"Dylan, come down to eat!" Dylan's mom yelled from the kitchen
"Coming!" Dylan responded adjusting his shirt
Today was the first day back to school, and Dylan couldn't be more excited. He wanted to be back in hockey practice, the only thing he could do this time of the year on the little lake near his house
He quickly went downstairs to eat his breakfast, he wanted to be in his school early to meet up with his friends. He started taking big bites of his pancake, swallowing them with orange juice
"Slow it down, Dylan. You're gonna get an upset stomach" Dylan's mom warned the boy
"Yeah, yeah, whatever" Dylan ignored his mom and continued eating
"So, do you think you're gonna meet new friends?" His mom asked
"Nah, either way, I'll stick around with my old friends" Dylan responded and put his plate on the sink
"Oh! Before I forget, your father and I agreed on you going out to eat somewhere, as a gift. You could take your friends or go out alone, whatever you want" his mom offered
"Thank you, mom. See you later" he said and kissed his mom's cheek
"Aren't you forgetting something?" His mom said pointing to his hockey stick
"Ah! Thank you!" Dylan added and went to grab his hockey stick
"Bye!" He shouted from the front door
He got on his bike and rode to school, following the same path he used to get to almost everywhere
As he crossed the slow, early morning street, he passed by the same diner, only to see the same girl he saw yesterday
The one who had the misfortune of dropping her milkshake on her drawings
He saw the girl pick up her things and put them inside the bag, ready to leave to wherever she was going. Unfortunately, the red light Dylan was waiting on turned green, forcing him to go on his path
He wondered if she was new in town and if that was the only place she knew, but he then remembered that new teens always stayed with their parents, not wanting to get lost in the city
He pushed those thoughts away and pulled up his bike in the parking lot of the school

Violet picked up her things and shoved them into her bag, leaving ten dollars on the table paying for the breakfast and the soda she had earlier
She really was nervous about starting school. She knew new people were coming to her high school, but she was relieved when she thought about all her friends. Of course, they would be around her, they loved her. And she loved them, the way they would laugh at the most stupid things, all of the girls watching their boy best friends in hockey and football practice, going out to on Friday nights, and much more she could do with them
She was grateful for all of her friends, and she wanted to see them more than anything in the world, so she quickly said goodbye to the workers, hurried outside and got on her bike, riding to school, and well, ready to come back to the diner when school ended
