Poem: Bless You (2023)

There's perhaps a poem I could write about this //Or I could just say it straight // When the abuse first started, we would still say bless you when he'd sneeze // It said much less about him and more about our humanity // But as time went by and hearts started hardening // We found that (and this I'd never say out loud) // But we found that we began to wish the opposite // Today we're all gathered in the living room // And he lets out a loud sneeze // which is punctuated by
//silence.
