I didn't end up going to Starbucks, I decided to go home to check on my mum instead, I never really knew what I would come home to, sometimes if I was lucky she would be asleep or watching TV. Others she would be injured or blackout drunk.

That's why I came straight home after school if I could, I would at least have to come and check on my mum before going back out. So most of the time I just went to Starbucks before school started.

I opened the door and shut it behind me and I was instantly smacked in the face by the flickering light of the TV screen in the dark. My mum was slouched on the couch watching TV, with a pot noodle half-eaten on the coffee table. Surrounded by empty dirty plates and cans with all the curtains and blinds drawn keeping out any specks of light.

"Hey, mum."

"Why are you back so late?" She asked blankly her face still glued to the TV screen, she was watching pretty little liars.

"It's only five," I shrugged, beginning to put my things away.

"Yeh but you finish school at half three and it doesn't take two hours to go to Starbucks so don't give me that excuse."

I don't just go to Starbucks. I have a social life.

Kinda.

"I just stayed in the library and did some studying," I shrugged picking up the empty plates and putting them in the sink.

"Why didn't you call me to tell me that then?" She stood up glaring at me pointing the TV remote at the TV and pausing it.

"I didn't want to wake you,"

"So now it's my fault?!" She began to raise her voice.

"No, it's not." I turned on the taps, ran the hot water and rinsed the cluttered dirty plates, mugs, and bowls.

"So you admit it's your fault?" She questioned.

nope.

I didn't answer that I knew it was a trap but I felt my palms go clammy.

"You know you cause so much trouble right?! You're a brat and you're selfish and then you come here accusing me of things. " She spat. I just stayed silent grabbing the washing up sponge and drizzling washing liquid on it.

"Oh wow, you're ignoring me! Just remember how much I've done for you! When your father left us I could have chucked you out with him! But I let you stay and this is how you repay me?!" She screamed stamping over to me. I wiped a dish clean then ran it underwater again before putting it on the drying rack.

My father, I don't remember much of him, I only remember the little things like how he would make smiley face pancakes in the morning and how he always said he would buy me a dog for my 10th birthday.

"You enjoy seeing me suffer, I know you do! If you didn't you would do something in this house! You would help me!" She came up to me while I was washing a mug and took it out of my hand screaming at me. Before smashing it on the hard kitchen floor, it shattered into pieces and I jumped back in shock.

"Mum! what the hell?! I do things! I was just doing the washing up! I am the only person who does do things in this house!" I turned around shouting before rushing to grab a broom and brushed the shattered mug to the side of the room.

"Ha! You do things?!" She screamed "If you did anything this house would be tidy! But it's not it's a mess! I never have any clothes to wear and there is junk everywhere maybe if you worried less about yourself and your school work and looked after the person who raised you there wouldn't be this problem!"
