"Lucas helped me too." I paused. "I guess I owe him too."
"He's got a good heart, he doesn't like to show it, he doesn't trust many people, and I don't blame him. Just, don't let him scare you off." He smiled, his smile was lovely.
"I don't know, doesn't seem like he likes me very much." I grimaced.
"You are joking me right?" Hunter stared at me with a confused look.
I shook my head.
He laughed to himself. "Lucas has never been good at showing his emotions, ever since I've known him, it's just him. But, let me tell you this. That guy has a soft spot for you, I mean he broke the rules for you!"
"What rules?"
"I'm guessing he didn't tell you about that one huh?"
"No..."
He laughed again. "The echoes have a set of rules, to keep us safe. Especially since we have the chief's nephew running around the school." He paused. "The funny part is Lucas made them." He shook his head. "One of them is that we stick to ourselves. Don't speak to another soul, and especially don't befriend them, he was supposed to reject you, embarrass you so you would never come back, never bother him again. I don't know what he said to you when he pulled you off but either way, he wasn't supposed to do that."
I hated the way the ends of my mouth tugged up at that and my stomach warmed. Go against his own gang just so he didn't bruise my ego? Why?
He huffed. "Since you're a part of the echos now I suppose I should run you through them." He flashed a light-hearted smile.
"Am I now?" I laughed.
"DUH." We both burst out laughing.
"So here's the deal. As I said, make sure no one likes you. I don't think that will be too hard for you..."
"Hey!" I wailed glaring up at him.
"Jokes! Jokes! No one can know, apart from the members, ugh what else, masks are your best friend. And we don't do dirty, no befriending a smaller criminal to get to the big criminals, we get them all. Oh and god how could I forget!" He chuckled. "On Wednesdays, we wear pink." He smirked.
"Your definitely a Karen smith." I snorted.
"You know, I always saw myself more as a Gretchen Wieners." He commented.
"Your hair is full of secrets?" I laughed.
"Mm, something like that." He smirked. "Right well, we better get in, I gotta check on how Raymond is doing." He stated, walking a bit before stopping and nodding his head at me to come.
We walked back into the loud club and rushed past all the people and back into the room.
As soon as we opened the door to the room the stretch of blood slapped me round the face and I was met with a very beaten up Raymond. He was bleeding out of his nose and from the top of his head, bruised and battered and seemed very breathless.
The walls had been stained with crimson splatters and his blood gushed down the legs of the chair dripping onto the grey hard floor.
Lucas looked back at me and Hunter he was strikingly rattled like someone had shaken him up. His mouth open as he breathlessly clenched his harsh battered fists, drenched in blood.
He looked over to max who threw him a black cloth and he wiped his hands down wrapping them in the cloth but his hands were still stained.
My throat parched at the sight of it and Lucas' dreadful, cruel eyes locked on mine.
I'm glad I wasn't here to see this.
Raymond looked exhausted and it was extricating to think that Lucas could do such a thing.
Raymond didn't even notice I was there for a minute but when he did he looked up from the floor and once again, did not take an eye off me even when he was beaten and bloody.
I saw the look in his eye and I no longer felt bad for him, I could see all the twisted thoughts in his head and it made me shift where I stood.
I looked away not wanting to see any more of him and pulled my phone out of my bag checking the time.
It was 12 but it felt more like 2 in the morning.
"Hey."
Lucas seemed tense and his breathing was shallow and his brows narrowed.
"Hey."
"Are you." He paused, his eyes fixed on the floor. "Are you alright?"
Clearly, he knew the sight had disturbed me.
I just nodded trying to give a reassuring smile but something told me he didn't believe me.
"Have you got anything out of him?" I changed the subject, holding my arm as I was still feeling Raymond's glare on me.
"Nothing useful but I think he's close to cracking," Lucas informed before nodding at Max.
Max grabbed Raymond by his jacket before raising his fists. Raymond trembled and the minute Max moved his fists slightly Raymond struggled back.
"Okay! I will tell you whatever you want. Just, please. No more." He huffed quivering.
Max pushed him back onto his chair roughly.
"Good. We wouldn't wanna have to break any more of your pretty-boy face. Your call Lucas." Max said before standing to the side.
"Okay well let's start with some simple questions. Why are you here?" Lucas interrogated even though I swear he had already told me which meant he already knew.
"To get a shit ton of money from the bank." He spat.
"Ha, that's bullshit. You made that very clear when you knew who Jess was. So why don't you tell me how you know her."Lucas demanded.
"You really want to know why?" Raymond laughed with a tint in his voice that made me boil up inside. I knew whatever the reason was for knowing my name it couldn't be good.
Lucas's jaw tensed and he clenched his fists before punching Raymond in the face in a flash and Raymond's face went flying to the side blood spitting out of his mouth from the impact, he looked directly at me for a moment and I could see the dreadful spark of insanity in his eyes. Before looking back at Lucas and bursting out in laughter.
"I'm afraid if you know... I'm going to have to kill you!" He mocked in a sing-song voice.
What the hell is wrong with this guy? He seemed like a normal guy now he's mental.
Lucas grabbed his face.
" You're not in the position to be making threats," Lucas spat in disgust.
"Your funeral," Raymond muttered under his breath his face still being crushed under Lucas' grip.
"What was that?!" Lucas raised his voice and it echoed in the room. Damn, he could be frightening.
"The mafia leader. He wants the girl," Raymond purred looking over to me and giving me a wide grin that petrified me right to my core.
