The sun was rising outside and Shouto leaned against the counter as he drank his morning coffee. He was fully dressed in his Hero costume, ready to go out for the day and do his duty as a Hero. However, he was still waiting for his girlfriend to get out of bed so they could go on morning patrol together like they had talked about the night before.
"It's getting late. What's taking her so long to get up?" he mumbled to himself as he looked at the clock on the stove top. "She's usually awake before me.."
He set his coffee mug on the counter and headed down the hall to their bedroom. The door squeaked open as he gently pushed on it. The first thing he noticed was that the room was still dark — the curtains remained draped over the window and Momo was still in bed under the covers.
Shouto walked to her side of the bed, confused as to why and how she was still asleep. "Momo. C'mon," he gently said, setting his hand on her shoulder and shaking her slightly. "We gotta get to work," he informed her.
When she didn't respond he suddenly felt uneasy. He reached over and clicked the lamp on, lighting the room in a soft glow. His eyes widened when he looked down and saw that her face was flushed red and her breathing was shallow and raspy. He placed the back on his hand across her forehead, feeling how hot her body was.
"Momo.." he breathed out just as she began coughing in her sleep. He sighed and retracted his hand from her and combed it through his hair, shutting his eyes as she quieted down. Somehow she remained asleep.
Shouto shut the light off and left the room, pulling his phone from his pocket and dialing a number. "Hey. It's me. I can't make it today," he said as he unlocked the tablet that was sitting on the counter. "No. Momo's not coming in either. She's still asleep and I'm pretty sure she's sick.."
He typed in her symptoms into the search engine and then saw a news article about a bad case of the flu going around. "Yeah, I know. I just saw. She probably caught it, and, I'm definitely a carrier." He opened an article and began to read through it. "No I know. I'm gonna take care of her until she's better, so we won't be in for a few days. Just have Honenuki handle our section. He owes me a favor anyway."
Shouto bookmarked the page he was reading — how to take care of a sick person. "No, but I can figure it out... I'm sure I can do a good job. I'm not a child," he scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Whatever. Just expect us back by the end of the week."
He hung up the call and leaned on the counter as he continued to read the article. "Never had to take care of a sick person before... Hopefully I can handle it..." he sighed. "Better get changed then. No reason to be in my costume.."
The Hero went back to his room, taking his costume off in the process. He had his bracers off and was in the process of removing his full suit as he entered the room. He spotted Momo sitting up in bed, holding her head and looking miserable. "Momo?"
Her groggy eyes focused on her boyfriend, her vision blurred but focused when she stopped swaying in place to look at him. "Did I sleep in?" she tiredly and weakly questioned. Her voice was hoarse from coughing. She didn't sound like her usual self in the slightest.
Shouto set his bracers down and approached her, standing by her side as he touched her head again. "You're sick. I think it's the flu," he informed her. "You should lie back down and get some rest. I'm staying home to take care of you."
"What? No.. No.. I'll be fine," Momo replied, not wanting to hold him back from going to work. "I can go make some food and take a nap on the couch.." she said before she started coughing again.
A sigh escaped him as he set his hand on her shoulder, easily preventing her from getting up. "Momo. We share a bed. Whatever you have I'm definitely carrying. I'm not going out to spread it around to innocent people," he told her, giving a small smile. "Besides, rich girl, I'm sure when you got sick before you had an army of help taking care of you. I love you, but I doubt you can put up with this on your own right now."
