us varsity girls had to go into the locker room for a quick team meeting since jv games were done. once we got in i put my shoes on and stood up next to coach as she started talking.
"alright girls, this is the first game of the season, i know we haven't had much practice time but we got this. i'm unbelievably proud with how much work you guys put in the off season that i'm confident that we'll play good tonight. we just have to stay positive." she said.
"yeah guys we got this! we'll do great." i said.
we gave our manager our water bottles to put on the bench since we were running out and going straight into warming up. we all lined up and i had to go in front which meant i had to break through the poster.
the music started playing so i ran out and broke through the poster. the crowd went wild! they were so hype it was crazy. we ran around the court and then met up at the bench again. we did a break and started doing arm warmups, carsyn was my partner of course.
after about 15 minutes we had to do coin toss so captains got called. long story short we got serve and side so we had the court first. after our court warm up we gathered around the bench. and sure enough the girls were right behind our bench with their signs and their matching outfits.
"hi kianna!" gabs yelled very excitedly
"hi guys thank you so much for coming!" i said giving each of them a hug.
"of course we couldn't miss your first game!" tate said.
"kianna!" someone from the team yelled.
"sorry i got to go bye!" i said
"good luck!" they all yelled.
i smiled and walked over to where the team was standing.
"i want you guys to serve to 15, 2, 10, 5 and, 7. they look like the weaker back row people." coach said to me and carsyn. we nodded and started scouting.
soon enough the buzzer went off and we lined up on the end line of the volleyball court for introductions.
we did our little beat which was stomp stomp clap as mr. greaves announced us.
"number 2 a freshman rose coleman!"
"number 5 a sophomore madeline rodriguez!"
"number 10 a sophomore sally everett!"
"number 9 a junior melanie martinez!"
"number 13 a junior mackenzie mack!"
"number 21 a junior amber gardner!"
"number 1 a senior brittney hoover!"
"number 3 a senior braylynn akana!"
"number 14 a senior co-captain carsyn bradley!"
"and last but not least number 11 a senior captain kianna dela cruz!"
i did shakas to the crowd instead of waving unlike the girls. but while i was doing that i saw the boys! my heart started racing, i didn't know that they were going to be here!
after intros we went to the bench and did a quick little talk. i looked up to the boys and smiled. daniel blew me a kiss and i pretended to catch it and put it in my heart.
i wasn't really paying attention to what coach was saying lol. we went behind the end line after a break and lined up to which spot we were going in. then the whistle blew telling us to go to our spots. i was the first server so i stayed back and they rolled me the ball. that's when my nerves started the kick in.
i looked at coach and she nodded at me to reassure me. the whistle blew yet again telling me i could serve so i did my serve routine. then i served. i went to my spot which was middle back when i was in the back row after it went over the net.
the girl got my serve but made their setter run a little and they set up for an attack. their outside hit it, it was going to the corner and our libero, brittney got it.
"PIPE PIPE PIPE!" i yelled.
sure enough carsyn set it to me and bam i got a kill. the crowd went wild. we met up in the middle like we do after every point no matter what.
~skip to the end of the game~
it was the 5th set, we were all tired this game was hard we've had a lot of intense rallies. the score was 24-24 our serve. we had to win by two points to win the game. it was carsyn's serve. she did her routine and served it. an ace!
"yesssss!" we all yelled as we met in the middle cheering a little bit while the crowd yelled.
"one more come on carsyn" i said and hit her butt as she went to go serve. it's not an unusual thing for us to do that to each other lol.
she served it over and their right back got it surprisingly. they set up for an attack and it was going behind carsyn which meant was going the corner i ran and dove i got a pancake save. the crowd cheered. i quickly got up as carsyn set braylyn who was our right side hitter.
they dug it and set up for another attack. i had yet another dig and carsyn set mackenzie my opposite. this rally was intense. their defense shanked the ball causing to have a scramble play sending over a free ball.
brittney got it and i called for a hit. carsyn set it to me and i hit it as hard as i could. it hit their libero in the face lol. they got it and sent over another free ball. same thing brittney got it and i called for the ball. i hit it again and they thought it was out but the line judge called it in meaning we won!
we all started jumping and met up in the middle. the crowd is screaming our bench and coach ran up to us hugging us. after we went to high five the other team. i grabbed my water and we went to the locker room having a quick meeting and changing. i didn't fully change because i wanted to go see everybody. so i just took off my braces and put my warmups over top rushing out of the locker room as soon as the meeting had ended.
i went outside looking for everybody and once i saw them they all started celebrating and surrounded me.
"good job keeks!" almost everybody said.
"i uh got these for you." daniel said to me shyly handing me a bouquet of white roses my favorite.
"thank you" i said while hugging him and everybody cooed.
after talking with everybody we all went home. today was a good day and i hope we play good tomorrow.
