Chapter 8

It was a Saturday and Miranda and I were playing some chess.

"Ha! Check and mate!" Miranda smirks and crosses her arms in triumph. I grumble under my breath and sag my shoulders in defeat. She puts her hand up to her ear.

"What? I didn't quite hear you. Come on say it."

I sigh and roll my eyes "you're the best player ever."

She giggles and nods,"Yep!"

I chuckled and shook my head. She was one crazy sister. Two months. Two months until graduation for Miranda. She was always so bubbly even though her heart condition has been giving her so much trouble.

"You excited for graduation Miranda?" She smiles and nods.

"I am. I can't wait to get my diploma and look out into the audience and yell. I MADE IT BITCHES!" She laughs and I join her.

"I can't wait to hear that." I smile and she grins, but then her smile falters.

"Cory..I'm scared," her eyes had unshed tears in them and I knew what she meant.

"I know Miranda. You'll be okay, I won't let anything happen to you." I smile reassuringly and she smiles lightly and opens her arms which I gladly go into and hug her tightly, but not too tight.

"I love you Cory"

"I love you too Miranda.." My voice broke at the end and I began crying. She comforted me and whispered calming words and just held me till I calmed down.

After a while we were sitting on our couch watching tv. Miranda got up and goes to the bathroom. All of the sudden I hear a loud thump and quickly rush to the door. It was locked. I banged on the door.

"Miranda!" No answer.

"Miranda!!" I shouted and frantically looked around for the key to the bathroom door. Once I found it I quickly unlocked and pushed open the door. Miranda was on the floor, eyes closed and chest not moving up and down. I call 911 and try to wake her up.

"Miranda! Stay with me! Help! Help!" I was sobbing and the ambulance come.

I was rushing back and forth in the waiting room and my parents rush in.

"Where is she?! Where's my baby!" My mom yelled

"Mom, she's back there. They won't tell me anything." My mom began crying and my dad tried to comfort her, but he had tears in his eyes as well. The doctor comes out and my mom rushes up to him.

"How is she? Where is she?" The doctor looks at us sadly.

"She didn't make it." I never thought four words could break me. Four words that ruined everything. I rushed out of the hospital away from my crying parents. Away from the doctor. Away from everyone. It was raining, but I didn't care. I ran till I couldn't run any longer. I screamed and grabbed my hair and pulled hard and dropped to my knees.

"No no no no no this can't happen. Not now. She was so close! You ruined everything! Is this what you wanted!" I wasn't sure who I was screaming at, but I still screamed.

"I didn't get there in time.." I could've saved her but I didn't...

It's my fault.

I did it.

I killed my sister.
