cloud will deny the crush for as long as possible. he attracts a lot of dangerous people, and he doesn't want you to get attacked or hurt as a result of his crush. he'll deny it every time marlene points it out, and ignore the knowing smirks from biggs, jessie and the others. he's fearful you know too, because the group aren't exactly shy about teasing him about it, and will strongly deny it when he's teased in your presence, insisting he's just being a good friend.

that being said, he's not an idiot, and he knows he can't keep it a secret forever. he will eventually admit to you about his crush, but before you can get a word in he'll tell you it's totally fine if you don't return those feelings and if you don't want to be associated with him. yes you're his crush, but your one of his best friends first, and he doesn't have many people he can rely on or trust as much as he does you.

when you tell him you return those feelings and admit you've known about his crush on you for a long time, he's extremely embarrassed. you'd caught him staring at you at seventh heaven more than a couple of times, and when you'd looked back at him he'd been so distracted by looking at you that he just kept staring. you had noticed how he instinctively goes to protect you whenever a mission goes south, even if you're on completely the opposite side of the room.

you also hadn't missed the fact that whenever he was given a flower by aerith, he always gave it to you without question, even if marlene had gushed over it (you know, because you typically give it to the kid not the adult, although marlene doesn't mind - she knows cloud's in love with you). he's even more embarrassed by that, but his heart skips a beat when you tell him you think it's absolutely adorable and that it made you feel all flustered.

you're also notably one of the only people he lets touch him. he usually flinches away from everyone, but with you he's more than willing to accept your touch. he's never once shook off your concerned touches to his arm during a mission, and you're the only person he lets patch him up if he gets injured. he trusts you, and you make him feel safe, which is a foreign feeling to him, so he's naturally drawn to you. and yes, he'll now freely admit he does have a crush on you.
