anonymous asked: Thanks for all your work! Could I request HCs or a drabble (whichever works best for you) of a Modern!Soulmate AU where Cloud meets the Soulmate reader for the first time?

He's trying desperately to ignore it, but his heart is pounding in his chest, and he can't resist a quick glance towards the clock embedded in his wrist.

Four minutes, forty-seven seconds.

He glances up at the street, it's jam packed with people going about their daily lives, unaware of the life changing moment he's about to experience. Some of them will have met their soulmates already, some still have years to go until they meet theirs.

Four minutes, two seconds.

He stands up. He needs to move away from this crowded area, his heart tugging him towards a secluded alleyway. For a minute he hesitates, what if he misses his soulmate? But he knows that won't happen - fate makes sure soulmates always find each other.

So he slips into the alleyway, walking down it until he finds a small opening, a little refuge away from the modern day trials.

Two minutes, fifty-five seconds.

He swallows roughly, crossing his arms over chest for comfort. His mind is rushing with traitorous thoughts - what if they didn't like him? What if they walked away in disgust? What if he was awkward? What if he ruined the moment?

One minute, ten-seconds.

Should he walk back out onto the street? What if his soulmate was there, waiting for him, lost and alone. They said fate always brought soulmates together, but what if he was the exception? He was the exception for a lot of things, so would this be any different?

He tries to relax his shoulder, but his breath is still fast, heart pounding even faster. He can't relax, he's never felt so anxious in his life.

Fifteen seconds.

When did it get so close? Should he move? He pushes himself off the wall.

"Oh - sorry, I didn't realise there was someone else here."

He briefly glances down at his clock, but doesn't register the number, lifts his eyes to you too quickly. His heart stops, or does it skip a beat, he's not really sure. Your eyes find his, and it's like the world stops. He can't hear the cars on the street beyond the alleyway, or the idle chatter of people passing by. It's like you've become the centre of his world, no, the world. He knows who you are, and you know who he is. His soulmate, your soulmate.

He's thought of a million things he could say to you, been educated by Tifa and Barret on what he could say, but as he stares at you in awe, captivated by how gorgeous you look, he can only choke one word out.

"Hi."
