I woke up alone in the bedroom. I was startled by a blood curdling scream. “Daniel?” I whispered. The scream came louder now, it was a shriek of pain, it was Daniel, I was sure of it.
I ran down the hallway trying to find where the scream was coming from. Finally I found Daniel’s room. Daniel sat on the edge of his bed, his face creased in pain and frustration. Sebastian was towering over him. They didn’t hear me come in.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Daniel needs to stand up, he’s going to start walking today.” Sebastian answered, lifting Daniel onto his one good foot. Daniel stood on his right foot keeping his left carefully off the ground. He didn’t say a word just kept his head bent hiding his face.
“I said put your foot down, I won’t tell you again” Sebastian said, he sounded irritated.
Daniel lowered his foot to the ground still refusing to put weight on it. He held onto Sebastian for stability. Sebastian was carefully supporting him.
Daniel grunted and stepped forward, he collapsed in a heap on the ground. I rushed forward, but Sebastian held me back. “No, he has to do this on his own. Daniel get up.” He instructed turning his attention to Daniel, who was still on the floor, lying on his stomach.
“Get up Daniel” he urged. Daniel forced himself onto all fours, then onto his right leg finally dragging his left behind him. Sebastian smiled. “I told you he could do it” he said.
Daniel stepped forward onto his left leg, hissing loudly, but he continued to walk, limping slightly.
“He’ll start training with us next week.” He announced.
