I wake up out of another nightmare, the images of all those children trapped and screaming behind the iron gate, April screaming out, tears in her eyes, screaming my name in despair.
Sweat lines my forehead as the rears begin to fall from my eyes. “Do you always sleep tied to your bed?” a voice asks, it was Daniel, his voice calm but filled with concern as he sat at on a chair at the end of the bed.
“Daniel!” I whisper my voice came out as a croak, I wanted to run to him, wrap my arms around him and never let go, feel his lips crushing mine, smell the sweet smell of his skin, I tried to yank myself up, almost forgetting the ropes that bound me to the bed, it was only when I felt a searing pain in my wrists that I remembered that I was tied down.
“Hurry up and untie me!” I say urgently. He slowly gets to his feet, reaching for something on the floor, the crutches, I realise. “Oh Daniel.” I sigh; my voice lined with sympathy, his left leg was in a cast from the foot to the knee, the cast anchoring him down as he moved slowly towards me his leg dragging on the floor, I know that every step with those crutches is agony for him as he unties my right arm, fiddling with the knots, as I watch impatiently, the process was agonisingly long, he finally frees my right arm when he walks in.
“Go back to your room before I break the other one too” his voice was stone cold as he glared at Daniel and me.
Daniel turns slowly followed closely by Sebastian, I sit there speechless as they walk out the room. He turns to me at the door smiling.
“We’ve got a long day ahead of us sweetheart.” He says then, walking out of the room, shutting the door tightly.
