THE NOT SO PERFECT HOLIDAY
•IZZY'S POV•
I stumbled up the stairs, my vision blurry from the tears that flowed freely off my glistening skin. I slammed the door behind me and fell to the ground with my back pressed to the door.
I heard footsteps racing down the corridor and stop outside the entrance to my hotel room, I angrily wiped the remaining tears away from my eyes, removing any trace of my discomposure.
Jason knocked on the door, "Open the door please, it wasn't what it looked like, Izzy, listen to me I swear it wasn't."
There was a sigh, "Isabelle." He breathed.
The way he said my name, my full name, made my heart flutter even though I was angry at him. "What was it then? Tell me that Jay." I asked, slowly standing up and facing the wooden barrier between us.
"She kissed me less than a second before you came." Jason hurriedly explained, I heard him shuffle closer to the door.
"But you only pulled away when I called your name." I argued.
"I had my back to you, you couldn't see that I was trying to pull away." He said desperately from behind the wood, and I could picture the sad look on his face.
I didn't reply, instead I wondered what to do next. I had so many emotions and words flying around in my head, they were building up like a volcano ready to erupt.
And when I finally flung the door open it did.
"You're doing this on purpose aren't you?" I asked, no I didn't ask, in fact I left no room for an answer it wasn't a question in the slightest.
"You're trying to get in my mind, under my skin. You're waiting until you have every bit of my heart before you break it. But that was too early wasn't it, because I don't even love you."
The bitter words escaping my mouth weren't mine, they were from someone else. I couldn't control my mouth, it spoke what it wanted to speak.
His face fell like the rain back home, "Izzy, how could you say that? I would never hurt you."
The way he said it reminded me of Daniel. When he first met my mum he would always reassure her with those five words. But then his brother died, he was the closest person to my father in his life, losing him made Daniel snap.
He started drinking, staying out late, saying that his work was piling up at the office but when he arrived at home he stank of cigarettes and alcohol. Beating Kathryn every night, if not her, he would have a go at me.
When my mother finally plucked up the courage to leave him it was because he had brought drugs into our house, and she was having none of it.
It's funny how five words could bring back the whole lot of my darkest memories in an instant. And in that moment of resentment and rage I spoke. "You know what?"
He shook his head but didn't open his mouth to utter any words.
I took a deep breath.
"You're just like my father." I retorted.
