Aidan Gallagher
"do you know what it's like to love?" aidan asked.
"of course." y/n answered.
they were settled in aidan's kitchen. his parents invited y/n for dinner, she volunteered dearly to help with the dishes as aidan's dad came and fixed some broken strings on his guitar. aidan's mom on the other hand cleaned the living room leaving the childhood best friends in the kitchen.
"isn't it hard?" aidan said, his elbow resting on the kitchen island with his chin on his palm.
she looked at him, hands filled with bubbles from the dish soap. "it's not hard. it's always been easy loving people but that's different from being in love."
y/n had always been the one to wear her heart on his sleeves. she was soft and saw the good in everyone looking pass their faults and mistakes. she always says that everyone deserved to be loved. her heart was easy to open, she would give it to anyone without hesitations. she had been in love with how dogs walk around their street, how leaves fall from the trees and how she looks at their old neighbor while they pick flowers from their garden.
it was so easy.
"do you mean it?" aidan asked.
"mean what?"
"when you say you love someone?"
aidan was never the one to show emotion. he was only confident in showing affection when it comes to his parents because that's where he feels most comfortable with. but other than that it feels embarrassing.
"i don't have to say it because it goes without words." y/n said, glancing away from aidan to finish the dishes. "you could say it without really saying it you know. you could say 'call me when you get home' or even a simple meal you cooked for them."
"you make it sound so easy."
"because it is."
it's really not.
but it just sounds like those angsty fiction books with no happy endings. a modern version of romeo and juliet without... shakespeare mixing in complicated vocabulary making the whole story so long when he could just summarize it as 'their love was forbidden so they died.'

aidan sat back on his chair, quietly observing his best friend as she talks to another boy in their class. her head throwing back as she laughed.
she's really beautiful.
"you're staring." trinity says, taking aidan's attention.
"i'm not."
"just tell her you like her."
"you know?"
"everyone does." trinity says, her hands looking for a pocket on her jeans only to realize that there was none. another waste of jeans. "except for her."
"that's all that matters." aidan sighed.
_
if anything y/n would really ask why aidan was giving her this kind of questions. these were the questions that were perfect when they were on the rooftop looking at the stars. but instead they were in the kitchen placing finished plates and glasses on their respective cabinets.
there's really nothing to complain about. the click of plates were the only noise heard amongst them. it was silent, white noise surrounding the room. the tv was now playing, probably aidan's dad watching another of those old 90's action movies with grainy quality and loud sound effects.
both of them not bothering to speak, maybe there was nothing to speak about or maybe there was but they didn't know how to.
they were always pretending even though they promised not to. but it wasn't at all bad, we're still humans who hide their weaknesses to appear strong. it's always those spoken words that were better left unsaid, and the silent actions that were suppose to be loud and clear.
"wait let me get you a jacket too." aidan said, running to his room just before they leave to walk y/n home.
he wasn't suppose to, y/n said she could manage but aidan's mom pushed her son and gave him the 'act like a gentleman and accompany the girl home!' lecture. though aidan would really walk her home with no questions asked.
he comes back, a black jacket now wrapped on her shoulders as she mutters a quiet thanks. it was windy even though summer was just around the corner. the weather report said that it might rain within the end of the week. luckily it wasn't today.
they walked along the streets. the sun had fallen and darkness was soon to invade the sky with stars and hopefully the moon wouldn't hide behind the dark clouds. the wind blew strong enough to let y/n tug on the jacket closer to her body. it's scent was a mix of their fabric softeners and those perfumes from calvin klein. y/n wasn't really a fan of men's perfume but there's something about it when aidan wears it that makes it bareable.
"are you afraid to fall in love?" y/n asked this time, breaking the silence that was slowly drowning the both of them.
"it's not that." aidan says, y/n looking at him to continue. he sighs. "i think falling in love is amazing. i'm not afraid to fall in love, i'm just afraid i won't be loved back."
"are you in love with someone?"
yes. it's you. he wants to say but his tongue gets stuck between his teeth and gives a nod instead.
aidan wants to ask the same. but he'd rather let it pass. it's not that he doesn't want the answer, he's just afraid that her answer might be different from his.
they approached the door steps of y/n's house. aidan mentally having a debate with himself whether or not to confess because his feelings are eating him up and soon enough he might just give up and combust.
"it's always a fun day when it's with you." y/n says, a grin flashing on her lips.
her eyes sparkling that made aidan's heart beat faster than possible. it's like the universe was caught in her eyes and aidan's were no different. his eyes flashed adoration that even the blind could see.
"let's spend time again, tomorrow?" aidan smiles widely.
"of course." she says. turning around to reach for the door.
"goodnight." aidan shouted loud enough for her to hear. she turned around and smiled bigger.
"call me when you get home."
i love you too.
