It was late in the evening, and Dorian was held up in front of the computer. Everything was set for the press conference, and Dorian felt like he was in control. The kids were on leave from school and stayed with Simon and Keith on an overnight trip to Bath and Stonehedge. Dorian was grateful his parents could clear their schedules and help out. Dorian didn't want the kids home tomorrow, in case something happened at the press conference. The blond alpha was sitting at the kitchen table, and by the counter, Shiro had just finished chugging a big glass of water. The smaller man yawned as he put the glass in the dishwasher machine.

"Want to go to bed?"

Shiro turned around and nodded, suppressing another yawn.

"Yeah, I can barely keep my eyes open."

Dorian suddenly closed down the computer and walked up to Shiro. Without any warning, he put his arms around the omega, lifted him from the floor in a bridal carry, and walked towards Shiro's bedroom. Shiro laughed and hugged Dorian close.

"You know, I can still walk even though I'm tired."

"Yeah, but it's much more fun this way. Right?"

Shiro nodded and kissed Dorian's cheek. The blond stubble tickled his lips.

"You're so weird."

When they were close to the bedroom, they heard Finian call Dorian's name.

"What is it, Babe?" Dorian asked and stopped in the doorway.

"It's time for bed soon."

"Yeah, I'm just going to say goodnight to Shiro. Be right there."

"Alright! Good night Shiro."

"Good night!" Shiro called and shook his head.

"He's just as weird as you."

Dorian chuckled and stepped into the bedroom.

"I can admit that I'm sometimes a bit weird. But not like Finian. He's strange on a whole other level."

Shiro burst out laughing and nodded eagerly.

"That's true!"

Carefully, Dorian put Shiro on the bed and watched as the omega crawled beneath the duvet.

"I really do apologize for Katherine. She was acting strange again. I promise she isn't normally like that," Dorian said, his voice filled with both anger and sadness.

The lunch was a complete disaster. It was when the food just had been served that Katherine lashed out at Dorian. Neither Finian nor Dorian had ever seen their old friend like that, and Elliot tried desperately to calm his wife. Katherine didn't say anything bad to Shiro. Instead, she pitied him. Dorian was a selfish bastard who could only think with his cock. And worst of it all, she repeated the same thing Dorian had thought many times. It was like a barely healed wound just ripped open again, and Dorian couldn't say anything in defence. Shiro just stared at the others, not knowing what to do with himself.

Finian was first shocked, but then he got angry, and that was the first time Shiro saw the otherwise so peaceful redhead lose his calm. Katherine couldn't understand how Finian could accept having Dorian's lover in his house, living with their children. And no matter what Finian said, Katherine wouldn't calm down. The lunch ended with Katherine storming out of the restaurant, and Elliot apologizing for his wife behaviour before he ran after her. Both Finian and Dorian had tried to explain that this wasn't like Katherine at all. That something must have happened. Shiro wasn't really bothered by it, but he felt sorry for Finian and Dorian. He could see how sad they were. Finian and Dorian had spent the rest of the evening apologizing to Shiro several times for their friend, while Shiro tried to assure them he was okay.
