It's been a few days since Clem and AJ first arrived at Ericson's. Luckily, neither of them had classes that whole week, and with it being Saturday, Clem was relieved to be able to see Lee, Carley, and Luke again.
Violet was still pretty distant with Clem. While Brody and Sophie had tried to spark conversations with Clem, Violet rather shut them all off all together.
Not that Clem minded, of course. She loved the silence. Most days that week she had just drew with AJ anyhow.
But today, Lee was picking them up for the day.
. . .
"Have fun!" Sophie said, giving a wave to Clem.
"Thanks. You guys too." Clem said as she waved Sophie, Tenn and Minnie off. The three kids climbed into their family's jeep and drove off as Clem stood awaiting Lee to arrive.
Clem watched as AJ spoke to Willy and Louis, talking about who knows what. At the corner of her eye, Clem saw a certain blonde girl sitting by a tree.
Wasn't she getting ready to go home?
As much as Clem didn't want to do this, she knew it was best. So, she hesitantly made her way over to the girl, rubbing her wrist intensely.
"Hey.. uh.. aren't you going home?" Clem asked nervously. Why had she done this? This was stupid. She wanted a whole to appear and suck her up. She hated talking to people.
"Ugh. Get lost." Violet said in her usual aggravated tone. Clem didn't listen, instead, she stood there and still played with her wrist.
"I.. do you want me to.. uh.. sit with you..?" Clem asked. Wait, why did she ask that? That was stupid. She wanted nothing more than to go back and wait for Lee.
"No," Violet responded coldly. "Go away." Violet said again, sighing of frustration. Clem wanted to oblige. She wanted to go away.
But yet, something stopped her.
She found herself sitting next to the girl despite her protests.
"Can you just leave, god damn it? I just want to be alone." Violet said, hugging her knees as she looked away from the brunette.
"Nobody wants to be alone." Clem said, letting herself wonder how she could let herself say that.
"Well, I do."
"Not really. You're just testing me. To see if I care." Clem said, daring herself to inch closer.
"Why can't you just.. Leave?! Nobody wants you in our friend group! We were doing JUST fine until you showed up!" Violet yelled, scooting herself away from Clem so she could clearly see her face.
Clem opened her mouth to say something, when another voice cut her off.
"Clem! Come on, Lee's here!" AJ yelled. Clem could hear a door open, but hesitated to get up.
She looked the blonde over once more, sighing as she stood up.
"Sorry." She said, only loud enough for the blonde to hear as she got in the car with Lee.
. . .
"Hey sweet pea." Lee said with a big smile as Clem climbed into the car. Clem looked out her window, seeing the blonde hugging her knee's again and hiding her face in them.
"Clem?" AJ asked. Clem jolted from her dazed phase and looked at AJ, then to Lee.
"Sorry. Hey." Clem muttered as Lee started to drive.
. . .
"So, I was thinking," Carley started as she did Clem's hair. "Me and Lee want to throw a party. So you could meet your whole family." Carley finished, putting Clem's hair up in pigtails.
