"Some days, it takes a lot of work to be 'okay'"
"Nezuko, what are you doing?" A weak voice mumbled.
The girl looked up, bandages falling out of her hands. She quickly grabbed them again, and looked at the boy lying in front of her in shock.
"Tanjiro! Don't move! You're really hurt. Why did you let that woman hurt you.." Nezuko grumbled, she had a tint of regret in her voice. The regret she had for leaving Tanjiro to live an awful life.
"It's okay Nezuko, I feel fine." Tanjiro assures her, giving his best smile. "It'll all healed, see?"
Lifting up a bandage that Nezuko had sewn together, she only saw bare skin. None of the scans and cuts that she had seen previously.
The girl gasped a bit. "H-how? I swear-"
"I have a healing ability. Though, it doesn't heal scars." He explained.
Something so simple had shocked Nezuko. But she thought about it. Well, if his injuries healed, then what's the point?
The smile that Tanjiro wore was so reassuring. Like no other.
So she let her guard down.
That was the biggest mistake of her life.
After years went by, she never saw Tanjiro get beaten up by her mother ever again.
Her little brother was happy, and adorable as always. And he would always help his siblings.
Though, mother never talked about him. It was as if he never existed.
But it was better than having her brother get hurt.
After that experience, Nezuko had never talked to her mother. She felt uncomfortable being buddy-buddy with her brothers abuser.
Even thought Nezuko thought everything was going back to normal. Well, as normal as it could- she still had the urge to protect her brother. Which she tried her best.
Nezuko would help Tanjiro whenever he asked for it. Though, it was only once or twice a month he did that. She noticed he was very independent for his age. A skill she never had.
But the next time she regretted the most was when that demon had come.
He had taken her whole family away. And tortured Tanjiro.
That monster would pay.
All she had to do now is protect Tanjiro with her life and soul.
Nezuko would never ever let them take Tanjiro away again.
"That's... that's horrible." Giyyuu mumbled, giving a vibe of concern.
Nezuko nodded. "I feel horrible. And to this day, I feel like I missed something. Of course I knew that Tanjiro reminded mom of my father- but I don't think that was the only reason why she hurt my brother. I mean, who would try to kill their son?" She said that last part quietly, then immediately shook the image of that out of her head.
She felt Tanjiro move a bit in her arms. And she smiled for a moment.
Nezuko seriously got the feeling of being a parent with Giyyuu towards Tanjiro. She had always liked Giyyuu, from the moment he saved her from that demon. He was so kind..
Although he never showed much emotion, he was traumatized from something in his past. She knew that. But she never asked.
Asking about something like that could harm a person. And Nezuko didn't want to do that.
But deep inside, Nezuko knew that Giyyuu felt much emotion. Proof of that is how protective he was over his comrades.
Nezuko liked that about him.
"Nezuko, thank you for sharing that story with me. I want to help in any way I can." He said, putting a hand on the table that was in between the two.
Her heart skipped a beat. And she turned bright red.
No no no! She seriously didn't just do that!
But he wanted to help?
She thought about it.
"Actually, I think you can-"
Short chapter because I am the worst author in the world.
