Phoenix's POV

My consciousness awoke before I was ready to open my eyes. I ached all over, as if a meat tenderizer had been taken to my entire body. My head hurt slightly as well. I was NOT ready to enter the world again. In all honesty, I was a little scared to open my eyes. I didn't want anyone to hurt me anymore. I was done with that.

When I finally cracked my eyes open, my headache immediately cranked up to a six. Oi, these lights were bright. To my right was some lad with blonde hair. My memory slowly came back to me and I remembered the lad's name: Niall. He was asleep and holding my hand. I was afraid to wake him, but I needed my hand back. My nose itched, and the other arm would set off my alarms if I bent it that far. Oi this was rough. I heard footsteps, so I closed my eyes again, but cracked them open just enough so that I could see through my eyelashes. Four other lads came into my room. They all had dark hair and had come to see the blonde lad who still held on to my hand. I decided it was probably time for me to make my world debut again. Ugh, this was going to be hard. I hated publicity.

When I made my eyes flutter open, I winced at how bright the light was, but at least it got Harry's attention. His eyes caught mine and they grew as wide as saucers when his brain registered that I was awake.

"Niall," I heard him say to the sleeping lad.

"Don't wake me unless something's happened," the lad groaned in his sleep.

"Well good morning to you too, sunshine," my voice came out in a whisper.

The other three lads jerked their heads my way and were just as surprised as Harry was.

"Someone pinch me. I must be dreaming. Did I just hear Phoenix say good morning to me?" Niall was a little more awake now.

"Yes, Niall, I said good morning to you," I answered, again in a whisper. Just the effort alone to talk made me tired again.

At this, he jerked himself up, letting go of my hand and bent over me.

"Are you truly alive?" Niall asked me.

"Does Louis adore carrots so much that I bought eight pounds for him when I ate the rest of his?" I answered as best I could.

He felt my face, picnhed my cheek, grabbed my hand, and poked my nose just to make sure I was alive.

"SHE'S ALIVE!!!" Niall shouted for what seemed like the rest of the hospital to hear.

"Niall, be quiet! She just entered the world again. Give her a little time," Liam said.

A lady came rushing in at the commotion to see what was going on.

"Phoenix! Glad to see you're awake!" she chirped. She must've been my nurse. I really liked her, and I had only known her for about two minutes.

"How long have I been here?" I asked, my voice still weak and raspy.

"You got here a couple days ago. These lads have been here practically nonstop, making sure that you're ok. You must be pretty special to them, especially that blonde one," she said.

Niall blushed at the comment.

"Well, now that you're awake, I'm going to leave you with these five, so you can catch up. Just let me know if you need anything," she chirped before leaving.

"What happened?" Louis jumped right in on interrogating me.

I took a deep breath in, wincing when I couldn't take a full breath, before I answered them.

"As much as I love you all, I don't think I can answer that right now," I answered. What happened was still too raw and too real for me to bring back up.
