Rantaro's POV
I almost forgot how it is walking outside. It's really depressing seeing all the bodies that litter the streets because people are too afraid to come to clean them up or already have passed because of the virus..."Rantaro are you ready? Maki said we need to go soon." Kaede came up from behind me already geared up. I sighed and put a knife into my knife pouch. "Yeah," I laughed to myself. This whole thing is so strange to me. Maki is the one who first knew about the antidote, and Peko and Fuyuhiko are also involved...could this mean something?
Wait I remember now! Maki and Peko- "Rantaro we have to go...they are already there..." Maki's voice cut off my train of thought. "Alright," I smiled before we walked down the tunnels again.
. . .
Maki and Kaede got out before me. I went to follow them but Maki stopped me. "We need to get Shuichi and Kokichi out of here. Use these so they don't make any noise...and bring them back to the base. Use this if you get lost. And you can use this portable carrier to carry them back. Make sure you are quick." That's all she said before she left.
'Ok then'...I thought before I walked down the tunnel. I know that Shuichi and Kokichi had an escape hat that led to the tunnels. I have known about the tunnels for a long time. Ever since this whole thing started. One time I went out to get some food while Kaede watched over the base or the place we were staying at the time...I ran into a tunnel and went in for a moment and found that it could lead to many places.
"Where could they be?" I asked myself before I went silent after I heard some faint voices. 'That must be them,' I walked towards the sound slowly making sure to keep myself out of their line of sight.
"Kokichi, why did we have to leave..." Shuichi's voice was shaking. I could tell he was crying onto Shuichi's shirt. Maki gave me some night vision goggles to wear in the tunnels so I could see them when they couldn't really see me. "They were going to break in and their intentions for us...we're not good..." Kokichi whispered moving his hands to Shuichi's cheeks.
"I just want all of this to go away!" Shuichi yelled as he started sobbing again. I felt bad for them...Kokichi was like a brother to me and I was overjoyed when he finally got together with Shuichi...but when this happened I was silently hoping that out of everyone they would be safe.
I know I have to get my job done...it what I have to do. I walked behind Shuichi and put the thing Mako gave me on his neck and he passed out. That worked better than I thought. "Shuichi?" Kokichi asked before I walked over to him and did the same thing.
When they both were out I pulled out the carrier and put them both on it by each other. It was definitely nicer than I thought it was going to be. It was a hovering board with sides that came up a bit. I was big enough to hold about 3 people tightly but for two people it was nicely spaced.
Shuichi clung to Kokichi as I started walking back to the base. I smiled at them glad that they had each other. I also like how when I walk I don't have to hold it or anything to make the carrier follow me. I just have to walk and it follows me.
"Maki really outdid herself," I said laughing to myself as I made it back to the base. I could hear the faint fighting as I walked away. I frowned...I remember when Kokichi got that house...he was so happy to finally move in with Shuichi...god, why does this have to make his life so much harder.
. . .
"You're finally back," Maki whispered seeing Shuichi and Kokichi on the carrier. She motioned for me to bring them to a bed in the back room with lavender sheets. I carefully put them on the bed trying to keep them together...because I could tell Shuichi was shaking pretty badly and when I tried to get Kokichi away from him to pick him up he started to cry in his sleep. I didn't know that this effected him this badly...
"What happened at their place?" I asked Kaede and Maki as they followed me into the room. "Well, it got a little intense...we tried to save their place but in the end...we couldn't save it..." Kaede put her head down. She was always one to beat herself up more than she deserves to be...
"The group blew the place up...right when we got there...I took out the two main leaders and tried to follow them back to their boss...but I couldn't find them after the flames calmed down." Maki said taking her hood off as she went to go and take their vitals.
"Are they going to be ok?" Kaede sat next to Shuichi with a frown. "Yeah, their vitals are normal. They will both wake up two days from now at the latest..." Maki put her tools back into the first aid kit before she walked out of the room.
Kaede started to cry silently as she put her hands over her eyes. I felt so terrible about all of this...this is all hell...why did this happen? Maybe what happened between Peko and Maki's elders forever ago had something to do with this...that could be it...it would make sense.
"You should eat...we all had a rough night." She placed one of the trays in front of me and one on the table by Kaede. Kaede slowly raised her head and ate her food slowly with a couple of sniffles here and there.
"Hey, Kaede. It's going to be alright." I said moving my arm around her shoulders. "Yeah...I know...but they have lost everything and it's all-" I cut her off. "It's not your fault Kaede...they still have each other and now they have us."
"You're right."
