"Guin?" Granger called at the familiar silhouette. Her shoulders were shaking uncontrollably. "Guin is that you?"The figure seemed to have heard him as she froze on the spot. But the figure seemed adamant to not face him. Before he could react, he felt his legs bring him to the girl's side. Her heavy dress was soaked in sea water with sand dredged into her hair.
"Guin?" He began gently, almost whispering. "I know it's you."
The red head still refused to show her face. Suddenly, Granger plopped himself down in the shallow water as he tried to meet her eyes.
Her beautiful green eyes were rimmed with tears with her hand clamped on her mouth to silence her own sobs. Granger couldn't believe what he was seeing, nor does he know what to do. Never did he have to encounter a crying girl alone, except in video games. Usually, when he sees this sight, it would signify him to run away.
But life isn't a game, this is a real girl with a real life crying real tears.
"Please leave me alone." Guinevere was able to choke out between heavy sobs. "I am having a breakdown so please don't look at me and leave me be ."
Granger was unsure as what to do. Being a hard head that he is, he sat down beside her with enough space between them. He didn't dare look at her face. Guaranteed that the girl will claw his eyes out.
"I'll stay here for a while."
"Give me my bloody privacy."
"Tide is coming in, so I'll stay here." Granger reasoned out softly. "You can tell me what bothers you. I'm your friend, remember?"
"I'm surprised you still remember me." She laughed bitterly and laid down in the water. "I want to drown so please leave. They might think that you drowned me."
"I'll take the blame."
Though the young girl might've thought of his words as pretty lies, he was being truthful. He'd rather take the blame than leave her be in the state she was in.
He let her do her thing for a short while, but began to feel terrified as the girl didn't sit back up for air. Guinevere looked up despite of the salt stinging her eyes, while seeing the bubbles of her breath leave. Slowly, sinking, feeling the air leave her lungs.
"Serenity." She thought. "Who knew drowning feels so serene?"
She didn't do anything to struggle. All she wanted was for the sea to consume her.
Granger couldn't leave the girl drowning in her own emotions. His hands snaked around her waist and propped her back up. Guinevere breathed, seemingly awakened from her death trance.
"Don't ever do that again." He glared. "I don't know much about you or your life, but I assure you, dying will not solve a thing."
"I have everything." She whispered. "But I still feel like this. I feel like an ungrateful brat. I feel—watched."
Granger bit his tongue to avoid his smart mouth from talking. He stood up and picked the girl from the water, her weight tripling from her soaked dress. He laid her on his beach towel, not giving a shit that his towel would be soaked as well.
"I'm here, Guin." Granger said. "We may not know each other well; but the last time we met, I never saw you as an ungrateful brat."
"Thank you." She breathed out, yet Guinevere was hesitant to believe his kind words. It was more likely that he just doesn't want to be suspected of murder. "We must go now. The activities will begin in an hour."
