Can't Catch Me

Chapter 2

I woke up in the sick bay with a cool cloth over my forehead and voices whispering urgently. 2 figures had their backs to me and another was sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. "Do you think she'll be alright?" Whispered a male voice. "Yes," said another voice, female this time. Suddenly the same voice said loudly "Nurse! Leave us, please." And was later followed by the sounds of scurrying feet across the floor boards towards the door. The woman sighed deeply, and put her head in her hands. "How could I let this happen?" She groaned in despair. The man put his arms around her shoulders attempting to comfort her. "Shhh." He said to her. "It's alright. Katrina, it's alright." "No Vincent!" The woman exploded "It's not alright! It was my duty to protect her! I didn't even do that right!" She crumpled into a chair "I don't know what happened."she whispered sadly, looking at her hands. "I was so careful." The man and the woman were silent for a moment. Then the figure in the corner cleared his throat and everyone looked at him. "I know." He said to them. He got blank looks in return. The figured sighed and rolled his eyes, standing up and walking into the light. "I know what happened to her." He said quietly. The woman stood up then and turned to the boy. "What did you see Corey?" She asked. The boy looked at me and I realised with a start that it was the boy in black. He turned back to the woman. "I went to my locker and she was doing the same. I felt my pocket and realised I had left my rune stone in my last class," he explained "I ran back to get it and when I came back those whores had vandalised my locker with words that I would never say to my worst enemies. I ripped the paper off and they surrounded me. Luna's locker is right next to mine. The girls were going to beat me up but she jumped on top of the girl with blond hair and then they chased her. I ran straight away to come get you. So Mrs Charles," he finished. "It wasn't your fault." I had to stop for a second to process that information. MRS CHARLES?! What?! What did she mean by "It was her duty to protect me?" What did she know? Why? I was about to sit up and ask all these questions when the boy- Corey- turned back to the teachers. "Mr Diggs, Mrs Charles, there's something different about her." He said turning pulling something out of his pocket. "The first time we met, was in the back garden on my first day here. She was sitting there with her hands open. There was a flame in her palms. I felt my pocket start to heat up a little and I hid behind a wall while I pulled it out. My stone was glowing, a bright red and it was so hot. I put it back into my pocket and walked up to her, but she still didn't notice me. I said hello and she shot up closing her hands and putting out the flame. She said bad things happen when when she gets angry. And then she saved me today. She risked her own life for me, and we've only me once. She's different." They all looked at me then. I shut my eyes quickly until I could feel their eyes moving off of me. I heard Mrs Charles sigh. "Corey," she said quietly "I think it's time we all had a talk. When Luna wakes up of course"
