I stayed silent, hidden in the trees. A small doe walked by and I bit my lip, knowing what i was about to do. We had no food. We had to eat somehow, right? I didn't have any weapons. Although I did find a broken pair of scissors. But that wouldn't be enough. I readied myself for what I was about to do. I took a few breathes. I counted to 10. And I closed my eyes. I opened them again, just for a moment, and pointed my hand to the doe, my palm facing it. I closed my eyes again and willed a burning blast of fire at the doe. I heard a squeal and crying from the animal, but I didn't let up. I stopped when I could no longer hear the tortured cries from the poor deer. I looked and on the floor was a mass of burnt skin and flesh, devoid of any hair. I swalled the bile rising up in my throat, took out my broken pair of scissors and began.
About an hour later I walked back to camp holding about 4 peices of animal flesh. I had found a very large stick on my way, along with 2 smaller sticks that come apart at the top to form a V. I stuck them in the ground by the fire, slid my deer onto the longest stick and placed it gently on the fire. I quickly ran to my backpack and emptied it, leaving only my canteen of water, now empty. I slung it over my shoulder and rushed toward the trees. I remembered seeing a bush full of berries. I knew they weren't poisonous, because during our "surviving in the wild" talk at school I knew how to identify the positions berries from the non-posionous. I quickly did the test on a bunch and put them into my backback. I also remembered a stream and knew it was clean because it was running. I filled up the canteen and went back to camp as quickly as I could.
I put my bag down gently and started to tend to the doe. It surprisingly hadn't burnt. I was quite proud of myself, considering I had never been out in the wild before. When I was satisfied with my food, I took it off the flame, carefully and placed it on a plate I had gotten from Corey's bag. I slid it on and did the same with mine. The other 2 I slid to eather side of the stick and pulled some leaves off of the trees and put them under the meat. Quinnie and Zedd walked forward eagerly. I went to my bag and pulled out the canteen and placed it on the ground. I got out another plate and piled all the berries on it. I sat down with a sigh and looked at Corey still standing just outside the fire light.
