Biting his lower lip anxiously, Gerard walked up to his best friend's house at 5 am. His hands shook to the extent that he could barely ring the doorbell and he hesitated before actually pressing the small button. Quickly, he shoved his trembling hands into his pockets and hunched his shoulders, staring at the door in anticipation. His black hair hung in strings in front of his eyes and he sniffled.

The door opened and Lindsey stood in front of him. At first, she seemed annoyed that he had woken her at such an early hour. But when she took in how miserable he looked, she took pity on him. "Oh, Gee," she said, opening the door farther and hushing him inside. "What the hell happened to you? Are you okay?"

"I-" he wiped his nose with his sleeve and blinked a few tears away while kicking off his shoes, "yeah, I- I'm fine, don't worry. Just- just needed someone to stay with. Someone that makes me feel safe." Carefully, he glanced up at her and sent her an obviously faked and pained smile.

Lindsey immediately knew what was up and quickly closed the door, then took a few steps over to him and pulled him into a hug. Instantly, he broke down again, sobbing against her chest and holding onto her tightly.

"It's okay," she shushed him gently, rubbing his back, "it's okay, you're with me now, she can't hurt you. Do you wanna take a bath? To calm down?"

Weakly, Gerard nodded against her chest and pulled away, sniffing one more time. "Thank you," he said and she gently took his hand and dragged him down the hall and to the bathroom.

"You're welcome," Lindsey let go of his hand as soon as he was in the bathroom, then sent him a small smile. "You know how everything works?"

"Yes, Lynz, this is not the first time I'm taking a bath at your house because my girlfriend is a prick," he said, rolling his eyes, "but thank you."

She nodded. "I'll be in the kitchen and make you something to eat. If you need anything, just call for me?"

"Alright," Gerard sent her a last smile before she closed the door and he stripped himself of his clothes.

His shirt was the first thing to land on the floor. He couldn't help but cringe at the marks littering his chest and abdomen.

He was supposed to like these. But he didn't.

When he had first started that relationship with Jessica, he did. He liked the marks she left on his body; he loved them. But after a while, he grew to despise them. They were a constant reminder of her, and right then, Gerard wanted nothing more than to just forget about her.

Deciding that it wasn't worth it, he moved on to removing his pants. He had the button open and zipper down when his phone rung and he took it out of his pocket. The caller ID at the top of the screen made his heart stop.

Should he answer?

Coming to the conclusion that yes, maybe he should answer his girlfriend, he quickly pressed the green button and held the phone to his ear. "Hello?"

"Where the fuck are you?" A high-pitched voice sounded out of the speaker, making him wince slightly.

"I- I'm at Lindsey's," he said, biting his nail nervously, "she needs my help with something."

The girl, Jessica, stayed quiet for a second. "Are you cheating on me?"

"What? No!" He sighed and closed his eyes. "I just- I don't know, I need some space, okay? That doesn't mean that I don't love you."

She instantly began to sob and wail. "You don't love me anymore! Did you ever even love me, Gerard?"

"O- of course," he stuttered out, her broken voice making his knees weak, "dear, of course, I loved you- I still do. You're my everything."

Again, she sobbed. "If you loved me, you'd be here with me now. Gee, what do I have to do to make you come back? Do I have to hurt myself again like last time?"

Gerard sighed once more and pinched the bridge of his nose. He knew what she was doing was wrong and manipulative but it worked so well--in her favor, of course. "Dear," he started, holding the phone tightly and trying not to get too angry; it had happened before, after all, and it had cost him his phone and a visit to the ER. "It's just for the weekend. I'll be with you on Monday."

"Fuck you!" Jessica said, then just hung up, leaving Gerard confused and concerned.

-

Gerard was back on Monday, but not because of the reasons he wanted to be there.

Over the weekend, he had talked to Lindsey and Mikey and now he was absolutely sure that he needed to break up with Jessica.

So, he did.

Just to get a coffee mug thrown at his head.

"You idiot!" Jessica yelled, throwing another cup but this time at the wall. "You don't even know how good I would be for you! I'm the best you'll ever have!"

"Jess-" Gerard sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Can you please stop yelling? Let's settle this like adults, okay?"

She huffed and clenched her fists at her sides and Gerard couldn't help but compare her to a toddler throwing a tantrum.

Instead of throwing a tantrum though, she threw coffee mugs.

"No!" Another cup shattered on the floor. "I'm not gonna let you tell me how to behave!"

And right then, Gerard's phone rang.

He quickly took it out of his pocket, hoping it would save him from the situation he was in, and when he saw the caller ID, his blood ran cold.

Jessica glanced down at the phone in his hand and then back at him. "Who's that?" Her voice was quiet, barely above a whisper, before she got loud again. "Is that the whore you've been sleeping with? God, I can't believe you, Gerard!"

And finally, Gerard's patience snapped.

"I didn't cheat, unlike someone!" He yelled, pushing his phone back into his pocket. All the color drained from his face when he realized what he had said.

But he wasn't going to back down now.

And in an instant, Jessica was a sobbing mess.

The anger in Gerard's chest became sorrow at the sight in front of him and he took a cautious step forward. "Jessica, dear, I'm sorry." He reached out to touch her shoulder but quickly held himself back.

Instead of answering, she buried her face in her hands and sobbed brokenly, her shoulders bouncing with every breath she let out.

Every time they fought, it ended like this, and Gerard was honestly sick of it. He had been sick of it for a while now but he had never had the guts to say or do anything. But today was the day, he decided; today was the day he would break up with her, bring this relationship to an end.

Whether she liked it or not.

So, he stood up straight, trying not to chicken out again, and he took a deep breath.

"Jessica, I'm moving out."
