Going away

We rushed out of the room, walking down to the halls to where Gavin told us where he was. When we got there and knocked on his door, there wasn't any answer. We didn't have any other way to go in besides the window.

[Y/N] How are we going to get to the window?
[Illinois] Crash in?
[Y/N] I don't wanna do that.
[Illinois] The only way.

He walked out the exit door next to us and he walked outside and onto the fire escape, climbing all the way up. I groaned as I followed him up, getting tired of how much stairs there was.

When we reached the top, Illinois looked down to see where Gavin's window was. He climbed over the edge, still holding on, and placed his foot on the window below us.When he moved from it, I did exactly what he did and continued to follow him down.

When he reached his window, he punched the glass until it shattered. He swung himself inside, landing perfectly. Unlike me, I swung myself in, landing clumsily and landed on Illinois, getting him off balanced.

When we got up, we scanned the room for Gavin. We didn't see him. When I went into the closet, I saw him laying on the floor, his shirt blood stained.

[Y/N] Why does this keep on happening? Everyone who tried to help us gets killed.
[Illinois] Venus wasn't really helping us. It's more the opposite.
[Y/N] Shut up. You know what I meant.

I scanned his body, looking for anything useful.

[Illinois] Looting a person who helped us?
[Y/N] You never know if they have anything useful.

I checked his pockets some more and found nothing. I got up and dusted myself.

[Y/N] We should move out now. More might be coming now.

We walked to the door, opening it up. When we did, the whole hallway was gathered with people.

[Y/N] Just act normal and just act pissed.
[Illinois] What for?
[Y/N] So people won't ask us what is happening. The last thing we need is for our time to get out stopped.

We walked out of the room and walked through the crowded halls. We made our way out and we decided to use the fire escape for a more faster way out.

We came onto ground level and began to run through the streets. Unfortunately for us, the crash must've gone through the whole small town and people were now up.

Illinois grabbed my wrist and pulled me into an alley. For now, we will be able to hide in the shadows.

[Y/N] Wait!
[Illinois] What? We have to get out.
[Y/N] That's the problem! Gavin said that he'll get a truck for us tomorrow. But there isn't any right now!
[Illinois] Just fund any shipping truck nearby. There is always one in towns like these.

He grabbed my wrist once more and we both started to run through the alleys. We looked through the streets to find any kind of transportation system.

Our luck is running out and I could hear grunts behind me. I looked to see more people dressed in black.

[Y/N] Illinois, we gotta hurry!

We have meet a large space where it looked like a market was at. There were buildings alongside a truck loading fruits and vegetables.

[Illinois] We gotta climb into that truck.

We stayed alongside the building that provided shadows. People were still loading in the fruit and vegetables. We sneaked our way to the side of the truck.

Illinois took a quick peek at how much produce there still was.

[Illinois] Only need a few more crates. When they loaded it all, we'll drop into the truck. That'll take us out of this village.
[Y/N] Pretty much got the point.

They loaded up the rest of the boxes and they put on a tarp for none of the items to drop out. They banged the side of the truck to signal they were ready.

The engine started and when the coast was clear, Illinois moved the tarp for me to climb in. I hoisted myself up and I waited for Illinois to climb in.

He dropped the tarp and I straightened it out in case it flys off. We felt the truck move forwards and that is when we felt relief.

I sat down beside a crate full of apples. I ran my fingers through my hair and that's when I heard a small squeak. I looked all around me but didn't see anything. That's when Faye climbed out of my pocket and up to my shoulder.

[Y/N] I forgot about you Faye! I hope you are alright.
[Illinois] You talk to vermin?
[Y/N] She keeps me in absolute comfort.

She rubbed her face against my cheek and I lifted my hand to my shoulder for her to climb on. She climbed on my hand and I brought her to my face. I scratched her chin a little.

[Illinois] I don't really enjoy rats that much.
[Y/N] Get used to it because I am not letting go Faye soon.

My stomach grumbled a little as I haven't eaten in 12 hours. I decided to grab an apple from the crate beside me. I bit into it, getting some juice on my chin.

[Illinois] You still have the riddle?

I wiped off my chin and finished my bite.

[Y/N] Yes.
[Illinois] I'm gonna try and solve it again.

I pulled out the paper from my front pocket and handed it to Illinois who was on the other side of the truck.

He opened it while I continued to eat my apple. Faye squeaked a small bit and I felt bad for her. I threw the core of my apple somewhere and I looked in each crate for something to give her.

In another crate, I found some plums. I got the fruit and I set it in my hand for her. She sniffed on it a small bit and started to nibble on it.

My eyelids started to droop and I eventually fell fast asleep.

- 3rd POV -

As the people in black continued to search for the two adventurers in the village, one of them spoke into a radio.

[Group Leader] We've lost them.

After the Group Leader stated that sentence, an unknown voice spoke through.

[???] Keep on searching. We cannot let them get to that temple before us. If you have failed at finding and retrieving them, let your neck be hung! Do you understand me?!
[Group Leader] Yes.

The conversation was over and the Group Leader spoke back into his radio.

[Group Leader] All units calling in, search this village. Miles out even.
[Group] 10-4!

The Group Leader continued to search his area until a voice spoke out on radio.

[Group unit #1] I found something! It's half a mile southwest from the village.
[Group Leader] Coming in.

The whole group began to run southwest where one unit said to meet.

When they all arrived to see an apple core on the ground.

[Group unit #1] Still a bit fresh.
[Group unit #2] Found some information.

Group unit #2 was behind the rest of the group, still walking to catch up.

[Group unit #2] Got information from a guy who said a truck loaded with produce heading to a bigger town several hours from here. Seems like the two have gotten on.
[Group Leader] Bring in the vehicles. Seems like we're going on a road trip.
