I scowled, spotting Malekith approaching with a legion of Dark Elves.

"Right. Are you ready?" Thor asked.

"I am,"  we stood on the ridge, watching the Elves.

"You know this plan of yours is going to get us killed," Loki said.

"Yes, possibly. Your friend has already informed me,"

"We're not friends," he denied, before holding out his cuffed hands.

"You still don't trust me, Brother?" He asked.

"Would you?" However, he did remove the cuffs from our hands.

"No, I wouldn't," Loki withdrew a dagger, stabbing Thor in the stomach with it before throwing a knife at me. The weapon lodged itself between my ribs, and I clutched the spot in pain, being shoved down the hill.

"You really think I cared about Frigga? About any of you? All I ever wanted was you and Odin dead at my feet!" He snarled. I heard Mjolnir being summoned, but there was the sound of a knife cutting through flesh and Thor screaming.

Poor Jane was wrenched to her feet, being dragged along.

"Malekith! I am Loki of Jotunnhiem, and I bring you a gift," he flung Jane to the ground in front of the Dark Elf's leader.

"I ask only two things in return--a good seat from which to watch Asgard burn...and her head,"

"Vath äth mouha Äskärdhiksevä. Vath ätjä lahifiksa sampyläslyvii," Kurse reported.

"Look at me," Malekith ordered, kicking Thor onto his back before lifting Jane in the air. The Aether was drawn out of her in dark, sludge tendrils before Jane dropped to the ground.

"Loki, now!" The dagger in my ribs vanished, and I bolted over to Jane, using my body to cover her as Thor blasted the Aether with lightning from Mjolnir.

There was a boom and a rush of smoke before Malekith gave a signal to the Elves and they started marching toward us.

Kurse threw an anti-gravity grenade towards us, and Loki shoved Jane and me to the side, being sucked in. I ran over, grabbing his hand but got my feet lifted off the ground. Thor barrelled into us, knocking us out of the vortex.

"That was really stupid," he told me.

"I wasn't about to let you die,"

"Why?" He asked, confused.

"Empathy,"

Elves surrounded us, aiming spears at us as we readied our weapons. They charged, and I sank a dagger into the stomach of one, cutting the thigh of another. I was a swift killing machine, just how they wanted.

And that was their mistake.

Soon, the ground around us was littered with bodies of Elves. Behind us, Thor was getting his ass handed to him by Kurse, who had an advantage from being a Kursed.

"Go. I'll hold them off," I hissed, and Loki nodded, running towards the two.

None of the Elves really stood a chance against me, and soon they all had stab wounds in their neck, heart, or stomach and were dead at my feet.

I watched as Loki grabbed a spear, driving it into Kurse's back. Slowly, the beast turned, grabbing him and impaling him as well.

I ran towards them, ignoring Kurse's screams as he imploded in on himself. "No, no, no, no. Ah, you fool. You didn't listen,"

"I know. I'm a fool, I'm a fool," he repeated.

"Stay with me, okay?" Thor asked desperately.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry," he repeated breathlessly.

"It's alright. I'll tell Father what you did here today," Thor assured him.

"I didn't do it for him," I dropped to my knees beside him.

"You idiot. Why?" I asked.

"Empathy," his hand grabbed mine, something cold pressing against my palm.

His head leaned back, his eyes closing as his skin turned grey.

"Nooooooo!" I placed a hand on Thor's shoulder, slipping the object into my pocket.

"H-He's in a b-better place now," I stuttered, trying to console him.

Eventually, he and Jane left, and I broke. I just fell to the ground, numb. My mind couldn't, no, it refused to, accept it.

I dug into my pocket, withdrawing the object. It was a small golden chain with two arrowheads on it. I flipped it over, finding an inscription.

Hope is a powerful thing. It's the only thing stronger than fear.
