"I was told you wanted to make a deal?" River stated.
"Yes," The man hissed looking at River. "As you may know, we have a variety of drugs that I need tested into the market and I was told you have a wide range of dealers worldwide." The man had a scar across his cheek and dark long hair that framed his face. He was tall and spoke with a thick accent I couldn't place.
"I might have a few interested."
"Well, that's good to hear. We would be willing to cut a high percentage for every ounce that is sold." He smiled, although it looked more forced.
He turned back and headed towards the middle SUV, while ten men empty themselves out of the vehicles. All our men tighten their grip on their guns— alert at the commotion. The man makes his way back from behind the vehicle and stands in front of his SUV, opening a briefcase full of money.
"This is a bonus for accepting business with us."
River tensed and looked at the scene. We were outnumbered and this whole situation was sketchy. There was no way he would agree to this.
"I never agreed on anything yet. You still haven't told us who you are." River spoke coolly.
The man smiled a sinister smile and he nodded his head in amusement. He looked straight at me and directed his words at me, "Very well. We will be in touch then." He turned and jumped back into his vehicle and it sped off.
My eyes focused on the men in front of me that stayed in place. I stand up tall as my gaze lands on the man in the middle. Shit. This wasn't good.
"River..." I pleaded.
"Vix... Get out of here. Now." Voice low and urgent.
I look over at him and I can tell he was nervous of the situation. We are at a huge disadvantage. They outnumbered us in guns and men. He grips his machine gun tightly but doesn't make a move.
"I'm not leaving without you."
"Please." It was barely a whisper. His eyes turn to me and were begging me to leave, to get out of here.
"Not without you." I turn my attention back to the men and I withdrew my gun and held it to my side.
In unison with River, we slowly start backing up, Elliot and the others follow. We walk cautiously, watching their every move. We wouldn't be the first to shoot if we could help it. Maybe this was just an intimidation tactic.
Just as I saw one man pull his gun up, all hell broke loose. I dived behind the car, trying to avoid the bullets.
I look over to River who has done the same. "GET HER OUT OF HERE. NOW!" He screams.
I try to look behind me at the men, but it was no use. I lifted my arm and blindly shot a few bullets at them without looking. I heard one of their guns go off in the air above us. I glace back and see one of them laying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Just as I was going to try again, I heard tires screech and turn to see one of the SUVs driving straight toward me.
Fuck! I dive to the rear of the vehicle next to me. Barley missing the SUV smashing my car. I jumped up shooting at the driver's side window, but the bullets don't go through—I realized it was bulletproof. Shit. In one swift movement I grab my knife out of the holster and jam it into the lock and turn it, unlocking the door. I hold up my gun and shot the driver before he even realizes what is happening.
I turned around and see a man bent behind the smashed SUV and shoot my last two bullets into his chest.
Emptying my magazine, I replace it with another one and try making my way to River. I see him hunched behind one of our men's Landrover. Its tires were blown, and the windshield was smashed. Shit how are we going to get out of this? I crawl over, using anything I could to block from the flying bullets.
Once I made my way to River's side, I catch a glimpse of relief cross his face as he sees me. "Vix, fuck thank god you're not hurt. You need to escape out of here."
"I am not leaving you; we'll get out of here together." I can feel tears burning my eyes, but I wouldn't dare to let them fall.
He stares into my eyes and grabs my head and puts it against his forehead and nods before letting go. "Okay here is the plan. See that boat to the right of us?" He points to a fishing boat about 150 yards from us. "We're going to make a break for it." He reloads his gun. "I'll cover you first."
I nod, not liking the idea of separating but I knew this was our only chance.
I wait for an opening and then River screams out, "NOW."
I run like my life depended on it—which it literally did— to the docks. Breathless, I felt the bullets hit the container by the docks as I press my back against it. I glance over at River and he nods at me. I position myself and start shooting to cover him.
He starts running towards me as I shoot the last of my bullets. Suddenly, seconds before reaching me, I see him stop. His eyes wide as he looks down at his chest and that's when I see the red stain forming over his heart.
