Chapter 2: A Test?

"A test?" Skull asked.

Callie nodded excitedly. "Yup! You guys have been doing intense training with us for two whole months now, and we think it's about time to see if you've learned anything!"

"Or if you were just slacking off during my lectures..." Marie sighed.

"It WAS gonna be a final exam, but we don't think you're ready for that yet!" Callie added.

Rider stepped forward, "So...what will the test be like? A practical? A written exam? Or a project or assignment? A Case Study? A-"

Pearl shushed him. "Geez, calm down, bud. The thing is, we're not telling you what the test is gonna be like until the actual day of the test."

Rider's eyes widened, along with everyone else's. "You wHAT?!" he shouted.

Callie laughed gleefully. "Oh my gosh, you should see your faces right now! But anyways, yeah, we're not telling you because if we did, you'd only revise that one section of our entire training together! So by not telling you, there's a chance it could be anything! You gotta step up your game if you wanna pass!"

"Jeez, for the "happy, peppy, cheerful" kind of girl, you sure can be a bitch sometimes," Vintage grumbled. "Even my school actually gave us a warning as to what the test was before we did it."

"Alright, alright, sheesh. It's about combat, okay? We'll tell you that much," Callie groaned.

"Aaand... what happens if we fail...?" Nana asked anxiously.

Pearl merely snickered to herself.

"You get KICKED OUT OF THE SQUIDBEAK SPLATOON!" she cackled.

The gang stared at her.

"Nah, I'm just kidding, if you fail, you have to spend the entire summer training down here. And it's gonna be HELL," she snickered.

"Honestly, I'd rather get kicked if you all are gonna be like THIS..." Vintage muttered.

The gang sighed in relief, but Marina glanced at the two in disappointment. Sometimes the other three could be a little too much.

"Callie, Pearlie, you're both awful. Anyways, just to let you know, your exam begins next week on this day, so you better start preparing now. Octo Canyon will be open for you to train in battle if you want, and I'd highly recommend it. Good luck everyone, you're all dismissed."

Hachi and Nana were walking back to Camp Triggerfish.

"Wow, that was...some training session today, huh?" Nana asked.

Hachi nodded.

"I think this will be good for our training, though. If we are faced with a significantly difficult challenge, we will strive to become better. That way, Inkopolis will be safer," he responded.

Nana looked up at the evening sky.

"Gee, and I thought that saving the Skyling Kingdom was a tough enough challenge. I don't think anything can compare to that," she laughed.

"Well, there's still more things worse than flying squids. Could you imagine? Maybe some million year old spirit or some egotistical cephalopod who thinks he's better than us because he has powerful allies compensating for the fact that he is weak," Hachi joked.

"True, true..."

Soon they arrived at Camp Triggerfish. They set down their things and decided to sit down for a while.
