It was time for the quirk test. Everyone was getting hyped up about it. Aki, however, didn't care too much. "So you think this is fun, huh?" Neither did Aizawa-sensei apparently. "You have three years here to become a hero; you think it's going to be all games and playtime?" Next to Aki, Deku exhaled, obviously scared because he had just found his new quirk. Aizawa-sensei continued, "Idiots. Today you'll compete in five physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none, and will be expelled immediately."
This time Aki really did gasp. Expelled? No, he wouldn't. It's just a show, to try and scare us. Right? They glanced over at Deku. With no villain points in the entrance exam and still experimenting with his new quirk, he would definitely be the one who was expelled. Once again, Aki felt terrible for him.
"As I said, I get to decide how this class runs." Aizawa-sensei moved his black hair out of his face and did his own sort of smirk at us. "Understand? If that's a problem, you can head home right now." The students all nodded in agreement. Well, most of them did.
"You can't send one of us home!" Uraraka shouted at him, "I mean, we just got here. Even if it wasn't just the first day, it isn't fair." Well, sweetie, sometimes life isn't fair.
"Oh, and you think natural disasters are?" You took the words right out of my mouth, Aizawa-sensei. Maybe they really did have a connection with Mr. Aizawa, as the westerners would put it. "Are power-hungry villains? Hm? Are catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No! The world is full of unfairness. It's a hero's job to try to combat that unfairness. If you want to be a pro, you're going to have to push yourself to the brink. For three years, UA will throw one hardship after another at you. So go beyond. Plus Ultra style."
Plus ultra is a Latin phrase that is UA's main motto. It means "further beyond". Student's here say "go beyond plus ultra!". What they are really saying, in Japanese is
Puryusu Ultra 超えて, or go beyond further beyond. It's telling the students to do better than what is expected, do better than the best. Lots of pressure.
Aizawa-sensei continued, "Show me it's no mistake that you're here. Now then. We're just wasting time by talking. Let the games begin."
The first test was a fifty-meter dash. Aki had the time to look at different students using their quirks, at least the ones that they knew for sure what their quirk was.
First up we have the guy that was arguing against Bakugo, Tenya Iida. He's against who I think is named 蛙吹梅雨(Tsuyu Asui). The race started and Iida won by a mile. He appears to have engines in his calves. Engines in his calves, huh? That's probably why he won then. I wonder what Asui's quirk is.
The next match-winner was the boy with the tail that Aki previously met, Ojiro. He was against Uraraka, who appeared to have used her quirk on her shoes by touching them. So that's how she makes things float. She must have control over zero-gravity. Well in a race against Ojiro, she wouldn't win. His tail can support his own body weight, it looks like. So he can use it to move around pretty quickly.
The races continued and Aki continued to take mental notes in their head. Finally, it was them up against a guy named 口田甲司(Koji Koda). Aki spat out a bunch of water and rode on it as soon as the race started. They quickly beat Koda, even though he had a head start, getting 5.72 seconds.
The next test was grip strength. Aki sucked at that one, and only got 56.7. However, a guy whose quirk was that he had multiple arms expelled at this one, getting over 540 kilograms.
The third test was standing long jump. Almost everyone cleared the sandbox, including Aki when they used their quirk to ride across it. Deku was one of the people who didn't clear the sandbox. Poor Deku. Why isn't he using his new quirk? Oh, that's right, it breaks him every time he uses it. That means that he'll probably be the one expelled. They grit their teeth. I really hope he doesn't though.
