Rae's POV

It's the week before Christmas. I'd got most of Trents presents sorted, bar one - which Virg was helping me sort out. A weekend away for us - I knew nothing about travelling as I'd never really been anywhere other than the trips with football.
I'd still not spoken to my brother, even more so after my mum text me. She'd sent me multiple abusive messages and kept doing it. She's keeps sending things, like she regrets me being born etc.
The specific first message said:
'You're not welcome at Christmas and won't be for a long time after how you've treated us and your brother. You're disgusting and a waste of time and space. I'm surprised if anyone really does care about you.'

The continuous messages were really getting too much. Plus getting a lot of grief from the media after a loss at the weekend, it was all adding up.

This morning, I was picking Trent up for training. Marley was sat, chewing a toy on the back seat. He gets in and hugs me before making a fuss of Marley. Marley had a little bit of a hard time it not being just us anymore, but he was really starting to love him.

"Everything alright?" He asks, putting his bags on the floor in front of him.
"Will be." I smile, turning my car back on.
"Let me help."
"I'm just having a shitty day, I'll be fine."
"The media are arseholes Rae. Don't listen to them."
"It's not just the media."
"Me?"
"Of course it's not you, you and shit head here are all I do have." Marley steps on to the middle island between the seats and drops his toy in my lap. "Thank you baby." I smile whilst sniffling, trying not to cry as per usual.
"You've got all the team too Rae. Especially Virg and Mo."
"Yeah.."
"I know today's gonna be hard, but you can lean on me and my family. We got you."
"You've no idea how much I appreciate it."

The club we're having their "family" day today. They invite the staff and players families down to watch a session, to have food with us all and just a small fun day as a way of giving back. The only problem is, I don't actually have my family anymore and I know damn well they'll be here.

Third Person POV

As Trent, Marley and Rae headed inside the clubs facilities, Rae's eyes immediately fell on to her brother, who was stood with their parents. She'd not seen them for years, they knew nothing about what had happened to her too.

Luckily, Trents family were just arriving as they were. Trent greets them before introducing them to Marley and Rae.

Rae's POV

"Mum, Dad, you two idiots..." Trent starts. "This is Rae. Rae, this is my Mum, Dad and my two idiot we
"Hi." I smile, not knowing how to react or wwhat to say.
"I'm so glad to finally meet you!" His mum cheers, giving me a hug. "He never shuts up about you."
"I hope it's good things." I laugh slightly, as Marley nudges my hand. I turn to him and he drops his toy on my foot. "Thank you baby."
"Why does he do that?" His mum asks.
"Whenever he thinks I'm sad or notices anxiety or anything like that, he'll drop as many toys on you or give them to you as his way of trying to cheer you up."
"That's beautiful."

W seaw eww we was

Hahahahaha
I sat on the floor and brought my knees to my chest. My chest felt like it was so tight I could hardly breathe. I was panicking about and crying, trying to get my phone to call him - but to no avail.
Marley leaves and walks outside.

Third Person POV

Trents Mum happened to be passing Rae's office as she heard someone starting to cry. She put her head round the door - and that's when she noticed Rae, in the most vulnerable state. Marley walked past her and outside, where he headed to Trent and started to bark.

Trent showed no end of confusion, but tried to pet him, thinking it was an attention thing. All whilst his mum was doing her best to comfort Rae, Marley continued to bark. He eventually resorted to latching on to Trents hoodie sleeve and pulling him towards Rae - which is when he started to realise what was going on.

Rae's POV

"Can I get you anything?" His mum asks. I'd been rocking back and fourth, crying.
"Water.... I can't breathe..." and just as I say it, Trent comes in. He hands me a fresh bottle of water and rubs my back but nothing was working.

He eventually picks me up and just holds me in a hug. After a few minutes, I managed to calm down enough I was getting my breath back.

"I'm embarrassed.." I mumble, hiding my face in his jacket.
"What for?" He asks.
"Being like that-"
"You've absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about, you can't control it."
"Rae.. if I might add my opinion here." His mum starts. "You shouldn't feel embarrassed, at all. You and control anything like this and I'm glad we could be there to help you. I'd like to know more so I can help in the future."
"Thank you.." I smile at her and she nods.

He helps me up and heads out, knowing we can't really give any hints we were together yet. It also gives me a chance to touch up my make up, which I quickly did and then sat back at the sofa with Marley and Trents family.

I'm finally starting to feel safe. That he's not going to hurt me and leave me like everyone does at that first opportunity.
