Rae's POV
They've been gone for two weeks and I'm missing him a lot, but I'm so incredibly proud of how they are performing. They're due home after this next game and I can't wait.
Tonight, I'm watching the game with T's family and hanging out with them. They were all so lovely and I am actually starting to feel happier about being around them and feeling accepted - not that they'd done anything wrong, but past experiences really screwed me up.Marley sits by my side as per usual and we start watching the game. About thirty minutes in, Trent goes down and you can already tell he's in a lot of pain. We're all frozen, watching the scene unfold. They bring the stretcher out and put him on it, before escorting him off the field.
Hours pass and I still hadn't heard a thing. We were trying to get hold of anyone, but nobody was answering. I was especially disappointed in Jordan, who I could see had read my message and hadn't responded.
I was just sitting, staring blankly at my phone.
"Raelynn." His mum says quietly, noting the time to be 2am. "Go to bed. I'll watch your phone and wake you if anyone calls."
"I'm okay. Thank you." I reply and Marley puts his head on my leg.
"Then we'll stay up together." She smiles and starts to make us a drink. The time hits 7am and I'd still not heard a single thing. Not even England. I've cried so much that my eyes are bloodshot, sore and swollen. It's done my injury no favours and has already made the pain ten times worse.
Finally, my phone starts to buzz.
"Rae." It's Jordan and I can feel myself start to get beyond angry.
"Oh you bothered to finally reach out?" I ask, trying to hold myself from completely losing it.
"I'm sorry. They wouldn't let me talk till we knew the full facts. He didn't want me to worry you."
"So leaving us, all fucking night was better than just sending me a quick message?"
"Rae-"
"Listen. I need to speak to him."
"You can't. He's in surgery."
"What?" I can feel my heart break and I'm already crying. I'd not slept, eaten or drank anything all night so that didn't help either. "I'm gonna come out there."
"You can't Rae, your injury-"
"I don't give a fuck." I snap, pulling out my iPad and hopping on the first flight website I could find.
"It's his knee. It's bad."
"How longs he in surgery for?"
"It should only be another hour or so."
"How bad is it Jord?" I ask, trying to hold myself from crying more.
"He's going to be out a while. Definitely the rest of the season."
"Will they fly him home after?"
"Unfortunately not Rae. England have already spoken to Liverpool and Trent. They've agreed to get him back quicker, he needs to go for state of the art treatment.."
"Meaning?"
"He's got to go to the US. For at least six to eight weeks."
"Please be joking..."
"I'm not Rae. I'm so, so sorry I couldnt call you sooner."
"Please will you get him to call me once he's awake please?"
"Of course. Me and the guys are taking it in turns so he's not on his own."
"Why can't I fly out?"
"You've not even been cleared of physio yet so there's your answer."I put my phone back on the table and just cry. After explaining everything to his mum, she gets just as emotional.
"Listen, I know he's not here right now. But you are more than welcome to stay with us or contact us if you need absolutely anything okay? Even if it's just a chat." She hugs me and sends me off to try and sleep. It miserably fails.
Third Person POV
As Trent was still coming round from the unexpected surgery, the players were still visiting. Knowing he wasn't alone was already making him feel a lot better.
He'd had an outcry of support from the fans, players and his family. He was waiting till he felt a little better before ringing Rae, knowing it would probably stress her out even further - which is something he'd want to avoid at all costs.
There was also the overhanging worry of him having to go to the US for treatment and physio. Six to eight weeks, across the ocean from his family, his friends, his job and most importantly Rae - who needed him. He knew she'd have Jordan at her beck and call but what if she needed him specifically? FaceTime can only do so much.
Rae'a POV
I turn my phone over, noticing it was vibrating. Rubbing my eyes, I notice Trent was calling and on FaceTime. Which wasn't ideal considering I looked an absolute mess, but I wasn't willing to admit a single thing.
"Hi princess." He smiles, probably trying to disguise the pain he was in - which miserably failed.
"Hi T." My eyes fill up immediately.
"I'm alright. I'll be fine." He tells me.
"You're not okay though. Nobody will let me come see you." My voice cracks and Marley gets up and visits his toy basket - no doubt trying his usual tricks.
"Good. I want nothing more than to see you, but you've not even been cleared off your physio yet." He replies.
"That doesn't matter-"
"Yes it does Rae. It's not worth it."
"Yes it is..."We talk for a little longer and his family also check in with him. I decide to go home for a bit, to try and relax with Marley but nothing was working. I just need him home.
