Floor 2: Evankhell's Floor
Variiya's PoV"She lied to us," Those words uttered by the blue-haired Khun changed everything.
Shibisu and I sat on the bench, a look of stupor on our faces. My mouth was slightly agape. "What do you mean, Khun?" Shibisu asked.
I was still stunned with denial after what happened the days prior.
During the last exam, Calliope betrayed me and I nearly failed, luckily for me I was saved by Khun. After the test, Rachel was the only one who came out, saying Bam fell off as he saved her from the Bull that attacked them.
"Why would she lie?" I asked, then I bit my lip to shut myself up. Here I was, again, defending a traitor by trying to find a justification for her actions.
He sighed, leaning forward. Of course, this was something I was skeptical of because Rachel meant so much to Bam while he meant so much to her. "I just met with Lero Ro,"
His ocean blue eyes flickered darkly as if I were seeing a sea storm rage. "He told me that he secretly called over a doctor to fix her legs when she fainted today. But after looking at her legs, the doctor said that she was just fine."
"What?" I yelled out. The knotted tension of shinsu within me was suddenly released because I was a nervous wreck. I accidentally shot a small baang to a mirror. It cracked and I flinched, embarrassed of my actions. "Whoops, continue, continue."
Khun's amusement died down as his eyes studied the floor. "The stab wound isn't deep, so she can walk and even run. He said that her type of wound doesn't need any treatment."
"Then Rachel pretended to be hurt even though she was fine?" The other male sputtered. "Why would she do that?"
"I don't know," Khun admitted, he looked melancholic, his expression screamed nostalgia. It seemed he was thinking of Bam, how the boy had helped us find a ray of light in our lives. "I don't know why she fooled us or what her reasons are. Maybe she's being threatened by someone. I'm sure that the Test Director also knows about this. There's something between them."
I stared at the floor, fascinated with my boots to distract my turmoil of emotions. "So what will you do Khun?" I asked softly. "We all promised to go up the Tower with Rachel, but if it's like this..."
He turned to Shibisu. "You guys go up the Tower, Shibisu. I'll form another team with Rachel and V.V."
My brows raised, wondering what plan he was concocting in his head.
"For now, let's keep this just between the three of us." Blue Hair continued. "Don't tell anybody. It's Bam's death that brought us all together. If the others find out about this, our team will collapse.
"I'm asking you, Shibisu. Please go up the Tower with this team." Khun finished.
I smiled at the Scout, the corners of my smile were wavering from the revelation. "You can do this."
"Having to suspect that she might've killed Bam, leave that to us." The Light Bearer muttered.
Shibisu grimaced. "It's too cruel. Khun, Variiya, you... so the cruelest of us should bear that burden."
I pursed my lips. "Well, she's the only clue that Bam's killers left behind. I'm not going to let her go easily."
"Let's be quick to go up the Tower and split up when the time comes," Khun murmured. "When the time is right, we'll stay and make a new team. It will act as a boundary and we'll protect and keep an eye on Rachel."
After Shibisu left, I gave an apologetic smile to Khun. "I'll pay for the damages."
He rolled his eyes. "This is why I need to look out for you too, you tend to do very stupid things."
I scoffed and crossed my arms. "Why do you want me to accompany you and Rachel?"
Khun shrugged. "Lero Ro told me that one of the best combinations of a two-person team is of a Light Bearer and a Wave Controller."
"I see," I deadpanned. Great, I'd be stuck with this stuck-up jerk most of the time. I took the crutch in my hands and stood up. "Well, I feel flattered, thanks for choosing me." I staggered to the door, my back facing him.
"Do you need help?" He called out, I had a feeling he was smirking.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance and turned to him, my eyes filled with determination. "No, I'm a strong, independent woman, capable of helping herself. Besides," I returned his smirk, earning a surprised face from him. "I gonna need to get stronger if we're gonna do this."
Don't worry Bam, we'll bring Rachel up the Tower to see the stars, but for now, we'll bring you justice.
