Floor 5
Variiya's PoVThe tests were getting more and more challenging. It was hard to keep up because I was in charge of looking after Rachel now. Why wasn't this chair controllable with a remote? I grumbled internally and pushed her up the ramp to the apartment.
Floor 5 was our main base as of now. Every time we complete a test, we go back to our apartment in hopes of getting new teammates. The new addition in the team is a little girl and a notorious anima named Verdi. I avoided her at all costs because god, she reminded me of Calliope (just a little creepier and disturbing) and I do not want to have some traumatic flashbacks.
I was currently helping her to the bathroom, grumbling every so often as I was waiting for her to come out. She can walk if she stopped the act all of this would be over.
Finally, there was a knock on the door, telling me that she was finished. I opened the door and carried her out to her wheelchair.
"Variiya, can we go out around the forest?" Asked Rachel timidly.
I nodded, complying with her request. Calm down, Variiya, don't make it obvious that I know her secret. But you never know, she might be a good person who was threatened and perhaps her injury was psychosomatic. You never know, stop assuming the worst in a person if you don't know anything about them.
But then again, I was paranoid with blonde people, age and gender didn't matter. Calliope and Hoh told me they were my friends and they betrayed me. I'm mentally preparing myself if Rachel betrays all of us.
We took a stroll down the hazy forest, enjoying the silence. Birds were singing their lullabies, small animals were playing hide-and-seek, while the setting sun was still lingering, as if hesitant to say goodbye. It wasn't often for me to go out and admire the scenery behind skirmishes and fights.
"You really want to climb the Tower to see the stars?" I asked, curious about what's going on in her mind.
"It's always been a dream of mine," Rachel smiled softly and looked down. "But it's silly to keep hoping to see them because it's just a legend. I'll probably get lost out there"
I stopped her chair. She looked at me, as if questioning what's wrong. Even though she may be a traitor, the nicest thing I could do for her is to give her advice, well... maybe she might take it the wrong way. But traitors are still human, maybe it's not bad to let them feel happy, to let them know someone cares about them every once in a while. "Sure, you'll get lost, but that doesn't mean you won't make it, go find that place what you're wishing for."
I continued pushing her forward until we could fully catch a glimpse of the sunset. "It's not silly at all. I believe the moon is real," I laughed at myself, "Besides, people say whatever you desire is up there. No matter if it's a legend, it would probably be up there."
She gasped, a glimmer of hope in her golden eyes as I continued. "Even if it's not real, you can create your own. Perhaps it's all just symbolism, the moon could be a person you care about in your life who shows compassion and gentleness because of its soft light."
I pointed at the sun. "The sun could be a reliable and straightforward friend as it always seems to be the same every day, always shining a light on us."
Then I looked up at the sky. "Since we don't have much light during the night, the stars are our friends, trying to support us by shining their best."
I suddenly heard sniffles and I immediately turned to see the blonde Light Bearer crying. I knelt down and wiped the tears off her face. "I miss him, I can't help but feel guilty all the time." She wailed and trembled as she hugged me.
