Dear Jacob,
Here is where the story changes. For although, as you know, our relationship grew into something resembling perfection in my eyes, a new cloud began to form in the sky. It was welcome rain to me, but I never knew how you felt about it. I was too self-obsessed to ask.
But this little cloud was a saviour. If it weren't for Ruth, I wouldn't be as comfortable with other people and myself, but if it weren't for Ruth, you would still be here...
As you know, Ruth became something equivalent to a sister to me. She still is.
She looks like you. Not in an 'Oh, you look so similar!' way, that kind strangers use. You look similar because although you both have blond hair and blue eyes, you both have a specific shine to you. One that makes you friendly and approachable.
You have the same smile, one that lifts the corner of your mouth before the rest joins in, although yours can be less teasing than Ruth's...!
You both wink. You both steal the blanket. You don't share the same religion, but you both had faith in me. Even if I let you down, you would both still accept me back, with a laugh or a smile.
I thought I could have you both. It turns out, I was wrong.
Love, Emma
