Tae relished the feeling when the choreographers nodded approvingly in his direction. He felt giddy with happiness when he managed to do the dance correctly. When he got inducted into the legendary dance line, he had felt a joy so uplifting that he only talked about himself for weeks on end.
Now that the dust had settled, Tae was beginning to realize that being in the dance line wasn't all that fun as it looked. He was expected to pick up the dance fast and always be willing to help the others with it. There were times he wished that Hoseok, Jimin and Jungkook would just manage it for him.
But no. It was his responsibility to help out.
And he did to the best of his ability. He may not have danced since a young age like Jimin and Hoseok, but he did have a clear grasp of how to memorize moves quickly and how to stay on the beat. He tried his level best to stay on top of things.
But those times when he seemed to be behind in everything would always creep back into his life without his permission and he would be forced to work himself twice as hard to catch up.
Today was one of those days.
He halfheartedly waved at the other members as they left the studio one by one. He had told them beforehand that he was going to stay for a few hours longer so he could memorize the choreography perfectly. Hoseok had offered to help, but Tae had refused. The dancer already worked too much to make sure everybody understood the dances, and Tae didn't want to be an extra burden on his shoulders.
As soon as the others left the hallway and could be heard giggling in the lobby, Tae left the studio to fill up his water bottle.
His plan was simple. Just go through the choreography about a dozen times, while correcting his mistakes. If he couldn't or didn't know how to correct something, he would ask Hoseok the next day.

His plan was executed nicely - except maybe Taehyung forgot when exactly to stop.
His limbs ached as he went to restart the music once more. He knew that he was tired, but he just wanted to go through the song without making any mistakes. It was his duty for being in the dance line.
The chorus was the hardest part of the song. The moves themselves weren't too difficult but the timings were hard to master because they fell on the weak beats. Tae used to start the moves right when Jin finished singing his line, but Hoseok had told him that he was off. Tae needed to count.
But that was harder than it looked. When Tae tried to count, he messed up the dance and he tried to dance, he messed up the count. Dance, or music in general, wasn't as effortless as it looked.
His muscles screamed in protest when the song ended. He wanted to go home now. But he had promised himself that he would get the song right at least once, so he groaned and went to turn the music again.
The world was tilting a bit when he finished again. He had still made a mistake during the first verse, so off he went again.
Music on. Music off. Music on. Music off.
Tae was practically stumbling over his feet now. He had worked himself too hard, he knew. The dance was unrecognizable now. He didn't even look like he was dancing anymore, just somebody struggling to walk now.
He needed to sit down just for a second. Dropping down, he lay down on the ground, feeling the cool floor soothe his sweaty body.
He needed to sleep just for a second. Closing his eyes, he relaxed, feeling the cooling touch of sleep claim him.
