Mani's P.O.V

The moment of truth is less than 24 hours away and I'm freaking out. I can't help it and nothing I try will calm me down. We've got this. We'll be okay. I know we will…but I don't…FUCK! I just have to stay positive. Stay positive. Okay…

We decided the best decision was to tell Sierra and Jordan about what's going on because if she just disappears tomorrow, how is that going to make them feel? It's just better that they know. I know this will be hard on them if she does have to leave so it's better to give them some forewarning.

"Sierra! Jordan!" I call from the living room. Aiden, Lauren and I are sitting on the couch right now as ready as well ever be. The kids come running in and Sierra plops in Lauren's lap. Lauren giggles and hugs her tightly.

"We need to talk to you guys about something." I say as Jordan sits next to Aiden.

"Jordan did it!" Sierra shouts.

"Mija, no one did anything. We just need to tell you guys something." Lauren says.

"Okay." Jordan and Sierra say at the same time.

"You know what jail is right?" Lauren says.

"You're really going to start like that?" Aiden says.

"You have a better suggestion?"

"Uh…please continue mother." He says and I shake my head.

"What mami is trying to say is, you know that sometimes people go to jail because they've done something wrong right?" I say. The kids nod.

"Well sometimes something bad can happen and a person can go to jail even if they did something wrong for the right reason." Lauren says.

"So you can do bad things for the right reason?" Jordan asks. Lauren and I sigh.

"It can be a good reason but its still wrong in the eyes of the law. If I went and stole medicine for one of you because you were sick and I couldn't buy it, the reason I did it isn't bad, is it?" I ask. The kids shake their heads no.

"Right, but I still stole and that was bad and breaking the law so I could get in trouble for that."

"So I did something bad for a good reason and tomorrow, they're going to decide if I should go to jail for it or not." Lauren says.

"What?!" Jordan says.

"What did you do mami?" Sierra asks.

"Well monster, I protected mama from a bad man but the way I did it was bad and technically against the law." Lauren says.

"So you're going to jail?" Jordan asks. I shake my head.

"Mami has to go to court tomorrow and they decide what happens."

"How long will you be gone?" Jordan asks.

"If I have to go, the most I can go away for is a year."

"A year?!" All the kids say in unison.

"You didn't tell me it would be a year." Aiden says.

"We won't be able to see you for a year?" Jordan asks.
