Chapter 54

Lauren's P.O.V

What in the hell is Mani doing? We aren't negotiating a contract, this is our lives! How is she so fucking calm about this? I'm freaking the fuck out. What if we don't make it out of this? I don't want this to be the end.

"Damn! I see why you're so good at your job." Camila says and I try to calm myself. Camila just admitted that her backup plan is to kill all of us. I don't think Normani can talk our way out of this. Fuck...we're too pretty to die. I wish I would've hugged my kids one more time...

"So my question to you is, why are you hesitating?" Normani asks and I look at her. That's just as bad as what I said earlier! Camila doesn't say anything but just looks at Normani.

"It's because you're not crazy. You're just at a point where you don't know what to do. You're able to think logically and rationally. You don't want to hurt anyone. So, if you just walk out of here right now, we'll consider it water under the bridge. Hell, I'll even help push Aiden into talking to you again." Mani tells her.

"You should've been a shrink!" Camila says then laughs and clears her throat.

"I wish I could believe that Mani, I honestly do but...I just can't. Both of you took my son from me and since I can't take him from you, I'll take you from him." She says then stands abruptly.

"Now, I'm not a horrible person so I'll let you guys maybe write a note to your kids or something. There's some paper in that folder, so have at it. I need a refill." She says then grabs her glass and makes her way back to the kitchen. Once she's far enough, I whisper to Normani.

"You need to run. You can get to the back door if I distract her."

"No! I'm not leaving you!" Mani whispers harshly as she pretends to hand me a piece of paper with a shaky hand. I grab her hand and look into her eyes.

"Baby, you have honestly made me the happiest I've ever been in my life. I-"

"Lauren.....stop." She says shakily with tears rolling down her cheek. I wipe away her tear with my thumb and kiss her chastely.

"Listen to me...I love you. I love our kids. I love the life we built together. I was a fucking idiot to never have seen the beautiful future we would've had together. I appreciate every thing you've done for me. Aiden would probably be dead by now if I didn't have you by my side. You showed me a love I never thought I'd ever deserve." I rest my forehead against hers as the tears pour from her eyes. I'm trying to hold it together but she is making this incredibly hard.

"Why does this sound like a goodbye? Lauren, please. We can figure this out." Mani's voice cracks as she speaks. I feel tears rolling down my cheeks and I take a shaky breath. Mani cups my cheek and shakes her head against mine. I offer Mani a genuine smile as I fight back the rest of my tears.

"You just make sure this little one knows I love them." I put my hand on her stomach then wipe her the fresh set of tears falling from her eyes.

"Pull yourself together because it's go time. You get the hell out of here and don't remarry." With that, I stand and see Camila leaning across the island, staring at us.

"You guys...I guess that's what real love looks like. I thought that was only some made up shit in Hollywood."

"Sure...Can I have a drink? If I'm going out, I don't want to do it sober." I say and Camila nods her head.
