Mani's P.O.V
One more month...well more like 3 weeks then I get to meet this little angel. I'm so excited. I've been at the doctors office more than I would have ever liked but it's all worth it because my baby is healthy. Lauren and Aiden have really transformed the baby's nursery and I love it. I've loved seeing them spending time together too. All they have to do now is paint it and it'll be finished. Aiden seems to be doing well after the Camila news. He didn't want to go to the funeral and even though Lauren and I didn't want to go, we still tried to convince him to go, just to make sure he was sure of his decision. I still wonder what kind of long term effect that might have on him. I'll just enjoy the fact that right now, he seems happy.
Aiden is a few days from finally not being grounded anymore and I can tell he's excited. Today, I have to pick him up from school since he decided to stay later. Aiden has been able to pull his grades back up from C's to A's and he's been training everyday for off season so that his Coach doesn't lose faith in him. Once I get to the school, I text him to let him know I'm here. We gave him a flip phone while he was grounded so that we can still contact him but as soon as he's with us, he has to give it back. Aiden responds that he's on the field and asks me to meet him so I park the car and walk over there. I don't really feel like walking but I'm sure he has a good reason for why he wants me over here.
I walk down the bleachers and see him on the field, still running some drills. Once I step foot on the grass, he sprints over to me with a smile on his face. What's he up to?
"You should feel horrible for having me walk this far." I tell him and he chuckles then tucks the football in his hand, under his left arm.
"You could use the exercise." He says and I raise my eyebrow at him.
"Are you calling me fat?" I ask and he shrugs.
"You are smuggling a watermelon under your shirt." I glare at him and he chuckles again.
"I'd choose your next words very carefully." I tell him. I look up at him and squint to keep the sun out of my eyes.
"What did you want?" I ask him. Aiden looks around the field before speaking again.
"Do you remember when I begged you to bring me here?" He says and I chuckle and nod my head.
"Yeah, you were 11. Someone told you this school had the best field in the district and you wouldn't let it go. I've never seen anyone so excited to see grass." I tell him.
"I remember. You got embarrassed because I started making snow angels in the grass. Or maybe it should be called a grass angel?" He says and I shrug.
"Anyway, do you remember what we talked about?" He asks and I shake my head.
"Not really." I tell him.
"We talked about football, obviously." He says jokingly.
"Seriously though, I told you that day I wanted to go to the NFL." I nod my head. I remember now.
"You told us that a lot." I tell him.
"Yeah and mami always brushed it off because I was a kid. You brushed me off too but that day you didn't. That day, you told me if I wanted to get into the NFL I had to be the best I could be. That no matter what life threw at me, this always had to be my main focus." He says then looks into my eyes.
