Ariella's PoV
Rushing from the concert hall, I quickly flagged a taxi and got in, spewing out the destination that Edward and I had decided to meet for our dinner date to commemorate my twenty-fourth birthday.
Honestly life had really went by like a breeze. In a blink of an eye, I had become a grown woman that has a stable occupation and I had also lived alone, away from dad.
Dad had remarried when I was twenty one, creating a new family with the singer, Yulian, whom I couldn't have been happier with.
When she had interests with dad, she came over to talk to me first before she took the next step in their relationship. She was very careful about me and was even more like a friend to me, taking me out for tea sometimes, I even composed a couple songs for her. Our relationship was more like a pair of biological mother and daughter.
When they married, I decided not to be the third wheel of their newly wedded life, and thus I moved out.
Alfie followed suit after a few weeks and he lived closer to his workplace, our family business.
Today was quite a busy day for me, with my birthday concert as well as receiving birthday wishes from various acquaintances.
I had lunch with dad, Yulian and Alfie earlier. Everything was cheerful and well, just like a normal family.
Glancing at my watch, I couldn't help but look out the windows, feeling a bit bouncy.
I was running late.
Of course, we wouldn't set a time that was inconvenient for both of us, but being blocked by fans at the door as well as receiving gifts from the staff, it took more time than I had wanted.
Luckily the traffic wasn't that heavy and I had arrived to the restaurant five minutes late. Nonetheless I was still late.
Rushing in, I asked the waitress to take me to the private room that Edward had reserved as we quickly approached the room upstairs.
Opening the door, I couldn't help but to apologise quickly.
"Sorry darling! I was held up by..."
Halfway through my apology, I couldn't help but freeze as the words couldn't flow out any longer and my hand held my mouth in shock.
There he was, handsomely dressed in his usual suit, presumably he had come here straight after work.
Throughout the years, the man had grown to be more and more alluring, unconsciously capturing hearts here and there. It truly made me relieved that I had caught him earlier on.
He stood there, holding the chair whilst his dark eyes looked at me smilingly.
Surrounding him were fully bloomed red roses and baby pink and white peonies decorating the room and table.
Coming over to me, who was frozen completely like a statue, he slipped his hand into mine as his smile became more clear and wide.
"What are you doing, standing there like that?" Tugging me lightly, he pulled me in as the door was shut behind us and a light kiss fell onto my forehead. "Wake up, silly."
"Why is this place so fancy for? Where did you have the time to do this? Weren't you busy?" I couldn't help but to ask as he led me over to take a seat, tucking the seat in effortlessly.
"I would always have time for you. Especially since it's your birthday, can't it be a little more special?" Standing behind me, his breath fanned by my ear as I couldn't help but blush.
