Arriving at the school gates on a fresh and cool Saturday morning, I gripped my bag tightly as I couldn't help but bounce on the spot excitedly as I discussed with my club mates about the competition.
Ms Yvonne had just went to get the minivan as we all huddled up by the gates, waiting for her.
Once we got into the vehicle, I could only feel that I wanted to puke even more when I add on my motion sickness to my excitement so I had no choice but to sleep on the window, only awakening when a classmate shook me up.
The venue that we arrived at was a huge hall used for performances of all sorts, with its large and modern structure, it looked very elegant and high class, which poured in the pressure.
I gulped. This was my first step to my path in life. Whether I would dedicate my future to music was reliant on these results.
Looking around, there was a couple other minivans with groups of youths pouring out, probably from other school around the area. I couldn't really distinguish the schools though, the only school I knew was mine, the one within walking distance from my house.
I noticed that some of my classmates nodded with recognition at some other youths but I didn't look at the other competitors. Either way, there wasn't going to be someone I knew there.
Following Ms Yvonne into the hall, we were taken into a dressing room where each of us began to prepare for our appearance on stage.
I pulled out the soft green dress from my bag and smiled at it.
The red dress was also pretty, but I felt that it was too eye catching. In that case, this reserved dress would be the best.
It wasn't my looks that were going to be displayed today, it was my music.
After dressing, and putting on my contact lenses, I clutched the music score and hummed along to the melody.
The nerves were slowly kicking in as one by one, people went on stage to play. Each of them had noticeably blooming musical talent. Was I like them?
Well, that had to wait and see.
Getting up from the sofa, I clutched the music score to my chest as I took a deep breath, leaving the dressing room and waiting by the side of the stage.
The audience could be visible from here, rows of red seats neatly aligned whilst some were occupied, some were empty.
Dad, Alfie, Edward and the rest mentioned that they would come and cheer me on today. Although I couldn't see them with my quick scan, I smiled.
Even if they weren't visible, I would know that I have their support.
After a round of applause echoed within the hall, the boy in his smart suit stepped off the stage as I stepped on, giving a bow before taking a seat before the piano.
Setting up my score, I closed my eyes and exhaled one more, holding my hands up, ready to play.
It began with the first note...
As the melody played, it was clearer than ever, softly vibrating in the wide hall, which was filled with silence. Nothing other than the piano could be heard. The soft music, dancing in the wind.
Closing my eyes, I felt the scenery that I had painted with the melody.
Soft grass, swaying in the wind, as the little white-haired Ariella danced with her bear feet. The maid nearby holding onto a small pair of expensive shoes that was stuffed with little white socks.
Faint snow fell on the sunny day as a mystical dance filled my senses.
It then ended with the last note where a moment of silence cloaked the room and the bright image slowly flew away.
And then there was a thunderous applause.
I slowly got up, retrieving the score as I bowed once more and left the stage.
My face was flushed with joy as a wide smile stuck onto my face. The feeling was thrilling.
I... Want to feel it again...
The passion bloomed within me as my path was much clearer. The smile I wore couldn't be washed away.
🌸🌸🌸
Day by day, week by week, I passed the competition stages smoothly until I had even won the finals, a fragile glass trophy in my arms as a famous musician praised me. I felt over the moon.
Even the school had celebrated this happening. The competition had made me famous at school and also quite noticeable in the music world. Until it came.
When I was summoned to the headteacher's office, I felt that there wasn't anything out of the norm. At most the teacher had wanted to see the person who had won a competition and would say a couple words of congratulations but who knew that it would change my path so much?
After gently knocking on the wooden door, an elderly voice invited me in as the headteacher gestured to the seat before him, giving a soft smile.
"Welcome Miss Ignes. Take a seat. There is something I wish to talk to you about." His wizened voice called out as I obeyed and sat before him. "Firstly I need to congratulate you for winning the piano's youth competition."
I nodded happily as he pushed forwards a piece of paper to which I took.
It was the certificate that had been made by the competition organisers.
"Thank you, headteacher."
"There's also one more thing." He continued as he sent forth an envelope and signed for me to open it and look inside.
As I peeled the envelope open, I pulled out the sheets inside carefully before I froze, seeing the huge bold letters across the front page.
"Mr Dale, the famous pianist seemed to take a liking to you. So he offered this opportunity. It is the best opportunity that you can get if you wish to enter the musical society." He paused for a moment to let the information sink in.
"Overseas study."
