Not sure if it's a headcanon or a theory, actually, but:

Mandy's poor eyesight is because of an astigmatism on one of her eyes.

I say this because of what happpens when she's not wearing her glasses. As somebody who is nearsighted IRL, I know that you would still be able to see something like a wall or a tree coming at you before you actually hit it. If your vision is so bad that you can't see something as big as a wall before you hit it, you don't need glasses, you need a seeing eye dog.

I don't think the problem is her vision at all. I think it's her depth perception. It just makes more sense to me. If she had one eye with okay vision and another that was almost blind, she wouldn't be able to tell how far away things were from her, resulting in her crashing into things the way she does in the movie.

It also works to answer the question, "If you hate your glasses so much, why not wear contacts?" (Small side note, but that sounds like a terrible idea for a doll. Can you imagine? Kids running around a playground and then one stops and shouts "NOBODY MOVE! My doll lost one of her contact lenses!) If you have a severe astigmatism, you can't wear contacts because they won't fit the shape of your eye.

Like I said, out of all the available options, this just makes the most sense to me.
