Zion couldn't stop think about that stupid handsome angel. He had to be the most innocent person the demon has ever meant. How did he end up with a mate like Zion? The angel deserves someone better. Someone who wasn't a demon.

But he couldn't get him out of his head. The angel's messy pure white hair matched his innocence perfectly. Plus, those big beautiful brown eyes of his was so stunning. Zion wished he could see the angel look at him with love instead of fear. He hated himself for scaring such an innocent being.

The demon hit himself on the head. He shouldn't be thinking about such things. He was a demon. An unholy demon. There's no way someone as innocent as his mate could love him.

Once more, the demon hit himself. He came to the graveyard for a reason. If he didn't get his job done soon, Saleos would have to report to Lucifer. The demon grudgingly walked to their usual meeting spot.

Saleos stood out like a sore thumb causing Zion to chuckle. The demon was paler than any human he's ever seen, his ears could be described as elvish, and his eyes were glowing green. But the thing that stood out the most was the ducal crown on his head.

Even so, he was still very attractive. More so than any human or demon Zion's ever seen- however, no one compared to his mate. Many fawned over the demon but he always said no. He loved love but he was asexual.

"No alligator today?" Zion joked.

The high ranked demon smirked, "You know Bethany is a crocodile. You're different, young Zion."

"You can't be serious?" Zion scoffed. "I've been gone for a day and you've become delusional. Just take the souls, Sally."

The demon handed Saleos his dagger. The older demon carefully grabbed it and extracted the angel souls, sending them straight to Hell. "You're right. It's only been a day which is a short time for you to change which can only mean one thing," Saleos said, smiling.

The demon tensed. Of course, Saleos noticed. "Don't. It doesn't matter," Zion sighed. He hoped to forget the angels but of course, that didn't happen. The innocent boy refused to leave his thoughts.

Saleos gently placed his hand on the young demon's shoulder. He could sense the boy struggling to accept his feelings. "Of course it does. Even demons deserve mates, Zion," he said.

Zion didn't believe him. He liked Saleos but he didn't deserve his mate. If his mother saw him now, she'd be disappointed. His father was. This wasn't the life he was supposed to live. He wasn't supposed to be some average demon taking angel souls.

"I know what you're thinking and I want you to stop it right now," Saleos said sternly. "You know what? I think you should talk to your mom."

Zion rolled his eyes, "You've given me a lot of great advice but that idea is shit. You do know my mom died thousands of years ago, right?"

"Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't talk with her. Humans manage to communicate with the dead all the time. I'm sure it'll be way easier for you. Of course, you could always talk to your father," Saleos pointed out.

"You know what? I'm going to go before you come up with another stupid idea. See ya around, Sally," Zion waves before walking away.

Saleos called out to the young demon before he was too far away. "Zion, I have no idea what your mother will say. But I think you should go find your man and run away from this life. We both know Lucifer won't notice and if any demons try to catch you, you're more than capable of dealing with them," he advised the demon. "And just so you know I accept whoever he is and I think you should too. Just because he isn't a demon, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve you."

"How did you-" Zion started to inquire.

Saleos shrugged, "It was obvious. Now, talk to your mom and get your man. Goodbye, Young Zion."

"Goodbye, Saleos," he nodded before walking away. He didn't really have a plan. He had nowhere to go if he chose to listen to Saleos. However, a thought crossed his mind. Maybe just maybe he could find his mate. Maybe they could live a peaceful life together if Zion could get his head out of his ass.

Zion sighed and mindless wandered through the graveyard. He thought if his mom. She was buried far away from here in San Fransisco. Thankfully, he could teleport to see her grave whenever he wanted to. But was he really going to do what Saleos suggested?

It was a crazy idea. Talking to the dead was ridiculous. Of course, he knew ghosts existed in Heaven and Hell. But talking to them was something he never thought of.

Zion decided it was better than doing nothing. He closed his eyes and imagined himself right next to his mother's gravestone. When he opened his eyes, he was right in front of it. Zion clenched his jaw, trying to keep away unwanted memories. He still missed his mother but every day he seemed to get better.

The demon kneeled on his mother's grave and started to speak to her. "I meant my mate, Mom. I uh- I may have run away from him which I know you'd scold me for. He was so innocent though and I'm not. What if I ruin him like I ruined me? I don't think I could live with myself if that happened-" Zion sighed and tiredly rubbed his face- "Why can't you be here? I need your help. I need your courage. I have no idea what I'm doing. I haven't been this confused in a long time."

He waited a while, hoping for something. But nothing came. He scolded himself for believing he could speak with the dead. Saleos' idea was foolish.

The demon stood up and got ready to teleport back to Ohio. He still had no clue what he was going to do. He could go back to hell and continue capturing souls for Lucifer. But he wasn't happy doing that. Actually he never expected to be happy ever again. Now he had the chance to be and he chose to run away. What kind of mate is he?

Zion hit his head. He left for his mate's own good. If the angel was happy, then it didn't matter if he was happy. It was all about his mate he tried to convince himself.

"Mom, I wish you could help me," he whispered softly to the sky.

The wind around him changed causing the demon to tense. Was someone here? There was a weak presence somewhere. It couldn't be a demon or an angel. Maybe a human? But the presence was surrounding him. How was that possible?

"Follow your heart, my son," a familiar voice whispered through the wind. His mother actually spoke to him. The demon could hardly believe it. Saleos was right.

"Mom?" His voice cracked as he called out. How was this possible? Maybe he was hallucinating. But demons couldn't hallucinate. At least, he didn't think they could.

"You deserve to be happy. Follow your heart," she replied.

The wind started to calm down and Zion felt his mom fade with it. He tried calling out again but there was no response. His mind couldn't process what just happened. Did his mom just speak to him? No, that'd make him insane. But his mom did speak with him and he knew it. She wanted him to be with his mate.

Still, Zion was hesitant. Would his mate even want him? Probably judging from the innocent angel's aura. He'd probably be the most understanding person Zion's ever meant. Perfect for the demon since he sometimes did things he regretted because he overthought situations. For example, running away from his mate. He regretted that immensely.

The demon teleported back to Ohio with one goal in mind: find his mate. He had no clue where to start but he was determined. Saleos may have actually given him some good advice. Though, he'd never tell him that.

Happiness. Something Zion hasn't felt in a while. But his mate was his chance to be happy. Plus, he would do anything his mother asked. The demon was definitely a mama's boy.
