Too many demons and angels bothered the mates. Both of them wanted to be left alone. Zion partly blamed the tent. It was in the forest meaning the two of them were out in the open for anyone to attack. So, he decided to search for a new shelter.
He didn't know what he wanted as he didn't want to but a house yet. There was still a chance that demons or angels would come for the two and he didn't want them to come to his house- or future house. He could always buy a small apartment. He had a lot of money saved over the thousands of years he was alive. Plus the demon was quite good at convincing people to do what he wanted; therefore, he could make sure he didn't get stuck with a crappy lease.
When he brought up the plan to Malak, the angel was excited. He's never seen an apartment before. Zion decided they'd walk around the town and see if there were any for rent. His angel was really excited. The town was filled with many new things that caught his attention.
There were a lot of people out today. Each wore different clothes with different colors. Some had animals and some had a small rectangular device that Zion called a phone. Zion had one too but he didn't really like the new technology. However, he decided to give it Malak for him to play with.
The angel really enjoyed it. There were a lot of words that Zion had to read for him. But Malak didn't mind. He was more focused on the pretty images and colors. The demon chuckled at his mate's innocent excitement. His phone was a very good distraction for the angel. Malak didn't pay attention to anything but it. This meant he almost ran into a few people; so Zion grabbed his angel's waist and guided him through the crowd.
While searching for an apartment, Zion noticed something. Almost everyone was a couple. It was really odd. Normally, this only happened on Valentine's Day but even then, there were fewer couples. It seemed like everyone was kissing or doing some couple shit. He usually didn't mind PDA but this was just too much.
Thankfully, his angel didn't notice. Something was strange but it wasn't deathly strange. Seeing an unusual amount of couples didn't mean anything bad was going to happen. It was just odd. Nothing his angel should need to worry about.
Finally, after about a half-hour, Zion found an apartment. Malak was even more excited than before and gave his phone back. He finally got to see an apartment! The demon used his phone to call the number on the door.
Immediately, someone picked up: "Hello! My name is Mr. Baker! How may I help you?"
Zion immediately regretted calling. He didn't want to deal with anyone but it was inevitable. Still, the demon hoped it wouldn't be someone so cheerful. It wasn't bad to be cheerful and he didn't want to hate on anyone's happiness. But it could get annoying really fast.
"Um, I saw your number on this apartment my boyfriend and I wanted to look at," he replied already regretting the phone call.
"Ah, yes! Are you the muscular guy with black hair that's with the skinny kid?"
The caught the demon off guard. Were they being stalked? He didn't even know the guy. That's when Zion noticed a guy waving at him through one of the windows in the apartment. The guy looked fairly harmless; he was in his mid-thirties, slightly on the chubbier side, and an overly excited smile. Zion wanted to leave. But his angel was too excited for him to leave and hire someone to look at apartments for him. He cursed himself for not looking online first.
"Yes-"
"Great! I'll be right out with my wife!" The guy said, hanging up. Within ten seconds, the door flew open and revealed a smiling couple. Zion couldn't believe this. Not only was it another couple but also no one was ever this fast to show him an apartment. "Please come it," he said, smiling wider.
