Saturday soon came and despite our tiredness because of a night of board games and karaoke, we were up early again this time with the decorators Uncle Fernando had hired to decorate the house for Aunt Verna's party.
"¿Dónde quieres los globos? (where should I put these balloons?)" A short lady came and asked me as she carried a wad of helium balloons that said "50!" I looked around at Jacqui who was no where in sight.
Only Alana was there laughing at me as we decorated the balcony and pillars with lights. "She asked where do you want to put the balloons."
I looked up surprised, "since when did you know Spanish?" I asked her.
"Oh unlike the British we have to learn at least two languages compulsory in school. I learnt English and Spanish parce que je parle déjà français." She finished and I nodded.
"Can you put it towards the back of the kitchen, where the cake table is?" I said and Alana translated and she nodded.
The guys finished setting up the lights with some helpers outside and the caterers came to set up the tables. The whole place looked absolutely phenomenal. I just knew when the sun would begin to go down and the party commenced this evening the lights would be so pretty.
"Will there be a DJ?" Malcolm asked.
"For old people." Isaiah commented and Ida scoffed.
"They aren't that old Isa." She said and we all laughed.
By the time the place was all set up we were already heading towards the afternoon. Uncle Fernando kept checking in on us, Isaiah was in charge of guests arriving. Apparently some of Aunt Verna's friends were coming alongside her sister. Esme, Jason, Josh had arrived around 6am this morning and head straight to their rooms, we hadn't heard from since.
Around one Alana and I decided to ask the chefs to make us some lunch and head for the balcony outside our bedroom window to eat our quesadilla's.
"You know I've never eaten Mexican food before coming here." She said as she sat opposite me. Her hair was up in a high bun and she wore an oversized navy t-shirt and shorts. I took my seat opposite her in my silk black pyjamas and put down my plate. It had definitely been a slow start to the day.
"I use to love burritos but I haven't had any just yet. I'm sure they taste so much better than England." I moaned as I bit into my quesadilla.
Alana laughed as she saw me but pulled the same expression as she ate hers.
"Good right?" I said and she confirmed by nodding.
There was a knock by our main door and I shouted. "Come in!"
I heard a bit of shuffling and Malcolm appeared from behind out screen window.
"Mal!" I got up and hugged him. I hadn't seen him much since we'd arrived.
"Hey, I thought I'd come and join you for brunch." He smiled and turned to Alana. "I'm Malcolm, the former best friend." He smirked looking at me and I rolled my eyes playfully. I pulled up a seat for him between Alana and myself.
"Bonjour (hello), I'm Alana the current." She joked playfully and we all laughed.
"No one will replace you Mal," I hugged him and pulled him in. "Do you want a quesadilla?" I offered him my second one.
He shook his head, "I already had enough bread and cheese for today. I had an omelette for breakfast earlier."
I laughed, "very British of you." I mocked.
"So Alana how are you finding being here and meeting all of us?" He asked as I continued eating.
She looked up and thought then finished chewing and said, "you know it's been cool. I'm quite spontaneous so I'm sure Delilah didn't think I'd actually come, but I'm here," she laughed. "it's been nice. I've only hung out with the girls mostly though so I guess I'll meet her amazing brothers for real tonight at dinner."
